When the silver doors open and I quickly stepped out almost welcomed by the site of no sway wobbly people in the hall. Maggie's stiff hand shot forward to hold the doors open, that were eager to close and lock once more. I nodded a replie of silent thanks, and made my way towards the familiar white, windowed, silver handled door. The entrance into my Bunk....room, as my hand reached for the silver handle, the familiar weight of watchful eyes hung down on my shoulders.
I turned following the feeling back to staring Maggie, her hand still holding open the double sliding silver doors. Our gaze locked for a moment, as no words were spoken. She was staring as if a inner war was going on in her being, her thin brown drows slightly twitched in res pounce to what ever she decided. I watched amazed as her features melted, sofented, her thin pressed lips falling into a deep frown, her gleaming daring eyes dropped there dull shield, her face lost its hard mask for a moment. the longing regretful expression made my heart clentched with sympathy and pity for such a hard intimidating person have such a sad, soft under shell.
". . .I'm sorry your here Nickles" she whispered our eyes locked again. She knew me, she knew me, she knew my name, she knew I was Nickles! Before I could ask her any thing, my mouth clamped close as if refusing my command. I watched as her Features shaped back to there regular hard, cold stone cold expression. Her lips flattened into a hard pressed line, her eyes returning to there natural glare. Her spine stiffened, as her shoulders rolled back. Maggie's face no longer showing anything, her thin pale fingered hand dropped from the door, and it quickly slid close bracing our locked gaze, she knew me, but how...?
I stood facing the closed locked silver doors, she knew me, she was sorry I was here, but why was she here if she knew me? I shock my buzzing head in effort to trying to clear it, I looked up over my shoulder to stare at the black round orb with the flashing red light, the camrea. Where they watching, did they hear her?
I shock my head once again, and turned back towards my bunk, room door, keeping in mind the soon any time the doors will lock and the lights will turn off, just like how Bruce warned. I twisted the handle and entered the room, the lights still switched on from before when I left with Lacy. I kicked the door close behind me, and walked over to the bed littered with pieces of clothing and blankets. I picked up each piece of clothing and folded it neatly, and placed them in piles of the metal desk beside the door. In the bunk, when inspection came rolling around you had to make sure your tan uniforms were folded neatly and tucked under your bunk bed. You had to make sure your bed was free of any creases or rinckles, if there was a speck of dirt on your bunk floor, the guards would drag you and your bunk mate to the shoe for being a distraction.I guess even here in the 'white bunk' the habit felt natural. I pulled the thin sheet and scratchy blue blanket over the bed tight, and tucked the extra fabric into the metal frame of the bed. I rested on top of the blankets with the pillow under my head and drifted into a dreamless sleep. A distant noise woke me instantly, I bolted up right guards! Guards! There coming to get me! I rolled off the right side of the bed, and crouched in the ground the stolen plastic fork from the white bunk mess hall clenched in hand. I blinked my eyes to adjust to the dim room, bright light poured in from the window in the entrance and exit door of the room. I watched as a small figure moved past the bottom edge of the window casting a dark shadow in its Interference with the light shinning in.
The pounding increased in speed and urgently, growing louder and louder. Could it be a guard? Would a guard even dare knock at a bunk door? No... A doctor, would they even considering knocking. Could it be Jane, but why would she be at my bunk, room door at some time in the night? The pounding increased even more, I wanted to scream and shout stop it the guards are coming, but didn't. I slipped over to the medal desk, beside the door my hand reached and gripped the bent metal cup ware I let it lay. The pounding sounded again, my muscles screamed to go hide turn away run! The pounding sound again sounding as if it threatens to knock every title off the wall. I reached forward my movements blurred as I ripped over the door open, and sunk low to the floor plastic fork raised ready to strike...
"....tip?" A familiar voice called. I cringed, that voice belonged to Lacy. I froze, it could be a trick, a trap don't move! I froze as a a run wild haired head pocked in from the doorframe, casting a shadow into the lighting. Her head turned to looked around the room, and when her green gaze landed on me she Yelp in surprised and nearly fell back on her butt, she then disappeared back into the light of the hallway.
"Tip, god you scared me!" She shirked from the hallway. I stud up and turned to lean against the door f some. I quickly scanned the hallway no find no guards, no doctors, no Jane, and no other inmates. I slumped agent the door frame, and rap a hand of my hair to draw the loose strange away from my sticky face.
" what where you doing in the floor like that you scared me!" She complained her hands pressed against her chest over her heart. Her chest raising and falling rapidly, as if I really scared her that bad. Did I? Did that little fright scare her that bad? Has she not seen what I've seen?... Probably not.
"What the drag are you doing pounding on my bunk door like a snitching drag shank?" I questioned, realizing the slang from the bunk slipped thru my lips. From the confused frightened expression on her face I'm guessing she didn't get my slang.
"Umm...s-showers.... I thought you would want to get clean b-before the bathroom got p-packed..." She stuttered her voice no longer bubbly and unsure.
"C-Can you please put the fork a-away tip...?" She whispered pointing at my white nuckled hand at my side. The fork threatened to snap and brake in my fist, as the plastic whitened.
"...sorry" I muddered my voice sounding strained in my own ears. I moved my hand and slipped the fork into the waist band of my grey silky shorts. I watched her let out a breath, her familiar wide smile on her face, the bounce back in her short limbs.
"come on get some clean change of clothes, then meet me by the elevator I'll take you to the shower hall" she said with a smile then turned and walked a few steps towards the silver doors. I reached into the bunk room and grabbed a folded neat pile of readied clothes and stepped after her.
"That was quick?" She gasped as she swiped her card over the scan pad, the light flashed and the doors opened.
"How was the door unlocked?" I asked turning towards her as we stepped into the elevator together. I remembered Bruce explaining how at a certain unknown time the doors would lock and the lights would turn off.
"You thought the doors were locked tip?" She asked turning her head up to me, as she learned forward and pressed a worn green button.
"Bruce told me the doors would be locked all night" I answered. She tipped her wild haired head back and roared with laughter. Laughing, why was she laughing. What was so funny? How was Bruce telling me the doors would lock funny?
"Oh...tip the only doors that lock are the stair case platform doors" she answered. Reaching up a small hand and wiped under her button eye lid, then pulled back her tiny hand and inspected her finger. Why would Bruce lie, did he really lie to me? Could Lacy be tricking me could she be leading me towards a trap, to guards? No...even thought I thought differently I still felt my hand slip back to touch the points of the fork, pressed against my spine. Just in case...I reminded my self as I kept a watchful eye on humming Lacy beside me.
