Abie doesn't bother with greetings or pleasantries when I walk in; she starts talking before I even sit down. "So, Mar, I take it you're screaming at nice dukes now?"
I become defensive before it's possible for her to continue. "He started it, Abie!"
"Oh, Marina, are you five again?"
"All I'm saying," I say, ignoring her comment, "is that my yelling was not uncalled for. He called me his friend."
"And that's bad because...?" she inquires.
I throw my hands in the air, not able to believe she'd even ask that. "Because I flirted with him all night for that? To be called his friend?"
Abie rolls her eyes, looking like she's trying to forget what I just said. "Okay, well you guys did good cover up on that, but just remember the steps to calm down you learned at your anger management thing."
"That was so stupid," I remind her. "I mean just because I threw one drink at some bitch I had to go to-"
"Yeah, yeah, I've heard this all before." She waves her hand in the air, dismissing my whining.
"Just so you know," I begin, "you don't have to worry about outbursts like that as much because now I don't have to flirt with guys all the time just to be turned down." I cross my arms smugly and tell her, "I've got a boyfriend now, Abie, and he's made of gold."
"Oh, Mar," she sighs, "are you pretending to date a crown again?"
I sit up straight immediately in defense. "What? What do you mean 'again?'"
"Well, you said he's made of gold and you tend to have a very personal and weird relationship with your possessions so I thought maybe-"
"It's a metaphor, Abie! Jesus!" I yell.
She puts her hands up in surrender. "Sorry, sorry. Congrats on this boy. What's he like?"
"Hot. Funny. Quick witted. Cunning. A little full of himself-"
"Oh, then you two are a perfect match!"
I sit back in the chair again. "Whatever. Let's move on."
"Alright, well, if you could stop chatting up half of Greece, that'd be great."
I scoff. "It's my kingdom, I should do what I want with half the population!"
"And maybe avoid flirting with the other countries too," she continues.
"Whatever, like I said, I have a boyfriend, so you don't have to worry about that. You'd love him, Abs, he's so charming. And he's great in bed, let me tell you-"
"How about," she interrupts "you don't tell me."
I put on a fake sad face. "I guess I wouldn't have to talk to you about this stuff if I had another strong female figure but my mom-"
"Oh no no no, Mar, you don't get to pull the dead mom pass on my ass to get me to talk to you about sex," Abie says, shaking her finger at me. "You are 22 years old, you can find people your own age to talk to about this."
I pout, but agree. "Anything else?"
She opens her mouth, closes it again, and then says hesitantly, "Do you know anything about that diet Mel's on?"
I look at my phone, realizing this has nothing to do with me, and say absent mindedly, "Mel's on a diet? Good for her. Taking control of her life, getting in shape. I'm proud of her."
"Well, it's actually, according to her, doctor or-"
My phone starts ringing. "I'd love to stay and chat, but my boyfriend's calling, so I've got to go. Anything else?"
Abie purses her lips. "Nope. Tell him I say hi."
I wave and pick up the phone, strutting from her office.
