Johni

~

When the rim of the bottle connected with my lips, I felt all my worries wash away. They drowned in the bitter taste of Bacardi, no longer lingering in my thoughts. Washing away all my sleepless nights, and sorrow.

Today is the day.

November 23rd, 2016

I will lock my mother's body away in a box, placed 6 feet underground for the essence of time to decay her flesh. Her organs are gone, now to live through some stranger's body, who couldn't take care of their own lungs, heart or kidney. It's crazy my mother saved their lives after hers is now gone.

And you tell me I'm wrong for burring my sorrows in Bacardi!

You can't tell me SHIT because you don't know how I'm feelings, or how much hurt my heart carries.

~ I have no one else. But, Bacardi.

I closed the spiral notebook I was writing in and stood up from my office chair.

"Your ride is here love." Brittany smiled at me.

My ride, as in Alexis.

I nodded at her and she walked away. I grabbed the half empty bottle of Bacardi off of my desk and I walked out of my office, into the living room.

Alexis was standing at the front door's doorway, twirling her keys around in one hand. That is until we made eye contact. She dropped her keys but quickly grabbed it off the floor, "Oops, you ready to go?"

"Yeah, give me a second... you can turn the car on in the meantime." I reply while avoiding eye contact.

"Okay, you-" I tuned her out as I went ahead into my kitchen. Placing the bottle of Bacardi onto the counter, I opened up my junk food cabinet. I grabbed a bag of cool ranch Doritos along with a Gatorade from the freezer.

And, I turned around to find Alexis leaning against the kitchens counter. Scaring me half to death, I jumped, "Oh, shit!"

She laughed as I rolled my eyes, "What the hell are you doing in here? I told you to start the car."

"Right, but I decided not to. Got a problem?"

"Yes, because you touching my shit." I growl, eyeing my bottle of Bacardi that was now in her hand."Oh, this?" She asked walking towards me, "I was just- oops." She then poured it into the sink as my jaw dropped.

"Are you fucking kidding me?!" I yell quickly grabbing the now empty bottle from her hand, "You have no idea what the fuck you just did!" I continued to yell as I shoved her, pissed.

"This is for your own good. Drinking isn't going to get you anywhere but in a car accident, or in the hospital for overdose!" She yelled back at me, "You know I'm here for you! So, why can't you just come to me instead of drowning out all your problems with this nasty ass shit! Since when did you start drinking Bacardi?!"

"Since the day my mother told me goodbye for the last fucking time!" I screamed in her face as tears began to form. I quickly hid my face in my sleeve as Alexis spoke, "Johni, I'm sorry..."
