When I woke up I had a huge headache. It felt like my brain was slamming against the sides of my skull. It was hard to think. My eye lids felt like they were glued shut so couldn't open them. But I didn't want to, I just wanted my awful head ache to go away.
I opened my eyes and I saw that I was no longer in Sydney's attic. I was laying on the floor with four guys looking down at me and instead of helping me get up they just looked at me laughing. I told my self I wouldn't be embarrassed but my face already felt hot.
I got up and looked around. The room looked like a hospital waiting room. There was comfortable looking chairs lined up against the walls. It had a front desk with three workers talking on phones and typing on computers. I walked up to one of the ladies at the desk. She had brown hair with blond highlights and a ladies business suit on with red cat eye glasses. That made her look like a teacher from an old movie.
"Where am I?" I asked
"You're at Timothy's Tough Tests." She replied without looking up from her computer.
Then before I could ask anymore questions a man in a fancy suit and tie came up to me grabbed my arm and dragged me through a hallway. I struggled and kicked the man, but he seemed to hardly notice. He stopped by a room titled Test A. He shoved me inside and disappeared.
I have only one word to describe the room "white". There was no furniture or carpet. There was nothing in the room. The walls and floor were white. I turned around to get out, but the door was locked. I looked frantically for an escape but there was nothing to look at. The room was completely empty.
"Help" I yelled.
My voice echoed across the walls. I doubt anyone could here me. I looked at the door irritated. I couldn't think and my head still hurt. All I knew was that I needed to get out of this room and find my way back to Syd's attic. Then my feet started to move by them selves. I came closer and closer to the door and then at the last second I picked up my feet and kicked them into the door. I fell onto the ground because I didn't get my legs back down fast enough; there was pain in my hip and back. I got up slowly and thankfully it hadn't been for nothing the door had fallen down. I limped out but bumped into the man in the suit. He grabbed my arm and pulled me through the halls again and to a door that said Test B.
"Come with me." He said gruffly.
The man in the business suit opened the door and shoved me inside. This room was the opposite of the other room. Instead of completely white it was completely black. I couldn't see a thing. Thinking that like the other room there wasn't a thing inside I walked back ready to charge the door again. But it was just my luck there was stuff in this room. My knee banged into something hard. I put my arm to my knee and tried to sit down on the floor only to have my bum hit something.
"That felt nice." I though sarcasticly.
I felt around careful not to bump anything. The ground was wood but from what I felt had a rug. Thanks to my clumsiness I tripped over the rug. Under the rug was a piece of paper. I wondered what it said. I got up and made my way over to the wall, where to my surprise I found a light switch. I turned the lights on. The room was nothing more then a simple bedroom, a bed, bedside stand, desk, and a vanity. The piece of paper in my hand said one simple word "Think". I didn't pay much attention to it; thinking never helped me pass a test. The only success I ever have is when I guess. I tossed the note into a garbage can right next to me. I walked over to the bed and lay down.
"I'll just sleep on it." I said as I closed my eyes. Normally I can fall asleep in l
Five minutes. But ten minutes passed then fifteen and twenty. So I just got up, walked over to the garbage can where the note that I had tossed in the garbage earlier was. I picked it up and inspected it seeing if there might be something that I missed. But there was nothing but the one word.
"Let me out of here." I said to no prevail.
I thought about what the note might mean. Maybe THINK was some type of code. My tummy rumbled and I realized I hadn't eaten in a while, I thought of my favorite restaurant. "Burger Barn" Then I was there. It was the same restaurant all the way down to the golf channel on the T.V.'s Experimenting a little I thought of being at Pool Palace. Then at the park, and all theses places appeared. I figured I might be able to get home so I imagined my bedroom. When nothing happened I tried something else; I imagined myself outside of the room and there I was.
"Awesome!" I said
Then the man in the business suit appeared again.
"Not so awesome." I said. "All right lets get this over with here my arm, go ahead and drag me into another boring old room."
He did grab my arm but this time he pulled me into an office walked out and locked the door.
I tried the door handle even though I knew it was locked. Then I thought what if I could imagine a key in my hand to get out like I did to imagine being out of the bedroom in test B. It was worth a shot so I imagined a key to appear in my hand then nothing happened. I tried even harder and a rusty key appeared in my hand, but I felt sick and light headed. I sat down for a minute then got up and tried it on the door. It opened immediately. In the door way was a man. He was a tall skinny man with thick graying hair. He had a clean shaven face and a suit on.
"Remarkable" he muttered to himself. He walked past me and sat down at the desk.
"Please come and sit down here, would you son?"
I walked over and sat down not sure what else to do.
"I was watching you while you were in those three rooms, and I'm particularly interested in this last test. I just want to ask you a few questions. Where did you get the idea to imagine a key?"
"It worked in the other room so I figured I'd give it a shot. Why were you watching me?"
"How did you feel after you got the key?" Apparently he wasn't interested in answering any questions.
"Light headed and sick, I thought I might faint. I still feel kind of sick." I said not sure why I answered him since he was a stranger. But he was also an adult in a business suit so I figured he must be important and I should probably listen to him.
The man looked at me for a moment then said.
"Perfect, I am Mr. Timothy owner of Timothy's Tough Tests."
"Could you maybe have made the tests not so hard?"
"I want you, plus several other carefully selected children to come to my Training Institute. There you will learn many different skills valuable in life. You don't have to decide right now but I would like an answer as soon as possible. I can answer any questions you have."
"We're would I be sleeping? Sleeping is a very important part of my nightly routine."
"You will be staying in cabins with five or six other boys of your age. If you like I could bring you there and give you a tour of the place to see if you would like it."
"That would be great, but I have one more question."
"Fire away"
"Will there be chocolate Twix bars there?"
"There is a sweet shop where you can get candy, ice cream, pastries, and all kinds of delicious food."
"Sweet, I'm in. When should I come for the tour? And where should I meet you?
"If we could meet right here tomorrow at 10:30 then I can bring you to the institute if that works for you."
"Ok, I'll be there."
"Wonderful" Mr. Timothy said as he exited me from the room and shut the door.
I made my way back to the lobby were I first started and two of the guys that were snorting at me before were still there. They were saying hey there's Mr. Floor Face. Ignoring them I went outside and sat by a park bench.
"There's nothing like a nice soft park bench to sleep on tonight." I said as I watched the sun go down.
