I steadied my breathing and walked up to the dagger. And pulled it out of the wood it was stuck to. I walked back up to the door dagger in hand.
I opened the door a crack. Then swung it open staying behind the door. Another dagger flew through the the air and landed in the same spot in the door opposite from this one. I poked my head out from behind the door. I the room was dark and I could only see what the light form this room allowed me to see, which was nothing besides dirt floor.
I took a deep breathe and entered the room closing the door behind me. As I walked though the door a light came on allowing me to see everything in the room. I looked for whoever had thrown the dagger but no one was in the room.
A strange contraption caught my eye. It was a catapult. Instead of throwing a ball or something there was a dagger in the slot. This was what shot that dagger not a person. I breathed a sigh of really realizing there was no immediate threat.
Looking around the room I noticed a desk. Walking up to it I saw that there was a small desk lamp and a cup with a few pencils, other then that the desk was empty. I pulled the chair back and sat down. I opened the first drawer and found nothing. I opened the second drawer and also found nothing. The other two drawers on he other side of the desk were empty too.
I opened the middle drawer doubting there would be anything in it. I found a single piece of paper. The paper was old and brown. I held it carefully so I would tear it. The top of the paper had a heading but it was in a different language and I couldn't read it. The rest was easy to understand since it was simply a map.
I was just about to roll it up and put in my pocket to show everyone back at camp when I heard voices in the hall.
"Are you sure you heard someone? We have been doing this for a long time and not once has this ever happened."
"There's always a first time for everything. Besides my security is the best. That silent alarm went off so now I'm going to catch the culprit."
I looked around frantically for an escape. I ran to the window and looked down. I gulped seeing how far down it was. I climbed over the edge and carefully started climbing down.
After awhile I heard a scream. Startled I lost my footing and nearly tumbled down the wall but at the last second I grabbed a rock and rebalanced my self.
I could hear voices and so for a moment I stopped and waited, listening.
"You idiot! Someone stole the map. I should have know better then to I trust the safety of the map to a child." This voice was older and mature.
"I'm sorry sir at least we have copies." This voice sounded like it belonged to a little boy. It almost sounded familiar. This was probably the voice of the boy I followed.
"Idiot, the map it like a key we can not get the item needed without the map."
The rock my foot was rested on fell making a loud noise. I looked up and my eyes meet with a masked man. I knew it was the boy I followed.
Panicked I continued to climb down as fast as I could.
"Don't just stand there, get him. He probably has the map." The older man said
The boy threw a small disk into the air. Which then expanded and floated above me. The boy jumped onto it and came after me.
Only a few feet from the bottom now I jumped. As soon as I touched the ground I was off again, running as fast as I could.
The boy was gaining on me and I knew that soon he would catch me if I didn't figure something out.
My imagine gift.
I focused on my cabin back at camp and there I was.
"Ryan?" Jacob came up to me
"Where were you?" He asked
I explained everything to him.
"You should probably tell Mr. Timothy about it." "Yah, I think I will. Yeh, where's Isaac?"
"Wasn't feeling so well he's at the nurses. The cruacion fruit should kick in soon so he should be back soon. Come on let's go see Mr. Timothy"
I followed Jacob out the door. As we continued Isaac came running up to us.
"Hey did you guys here what happened?"
"What?" I asked though Jacob obviously already knew
"More people have lost their powers. There must be at least twenty kids who have lost their powers now. Mr. Timothy doesn't know what to do since we don't know whose behind it."
"You have to hear what Ryan found." Jacob said
I explained to Isaac what happened.
Once I had finished the story I finally looked up and tried to read Isaac's expression to see if he thought I was crazy or not. When I met his eyes I saw surprise written across his face.
"What? Don't think I could handle that?" I said teasing
Isaac smiled. "You should probably tell Mr. Timothy what happened and give him the map so he can make sure it stays safe. Maybe one of our historians can figure out what the map leads to."
"Hey can one of you help me with this." It was one of the leaders I hadn't met yet. He was carrying several large boxes. He looked as if he was about to fall over.
Isaac and Jacob rushed over to help him.
"You go ahead and we'll catch up with you later." Jacob yelled
I nodded my head and continued to Mr. Timothy's office building.
I reached for the door knob but stopped. I could hear voices inside. I knew I shouldn't eavesdrop but I couldn't help myself.
"Nearly half the kids in the camp have lost there powers. We know whose behind this but the kids don't. We mustn't tell them if they find out that Peter is behind this they will all panic. We'll have the Dark War all over again." I recognized her voice as Mrs. Garcia the camp secretary.
"Well, I don't know what to do." This was Mr. Timothy
There was a long moment of silence so I knocked on the door.
"Mr. Timothy cleared his through the and said. "Come in"
I walked in.
"Ryan, is there something you need?"
"Sorry, did I interrupt something?"
"Not at all we were just finishing."
Mrs. Garcia smiled as she walked out the door.
I explained for the third time what happened and for a while Mr. Timothy was speechless. He just starred at me. "Can I see the map."
"Sure." I dug out the map from my back pocket and laid it on Mr. Timothy's desk.
He ran his fingers over it try to smooth the crease lines. He then reached for a microphone and said into it. "Mr. Sanders to my office. Mr. Sanders to my office." The words went all around the camp I could hear it from a speaker outside.
Within a few minutes Mr. Sanders was in the office.
"Ryan here has found this map. Would you please examine it and get back to me on what it's for."
Mr. Sanders picked up the map. His eyes widened. "No need, I know exactly what this is. This is the map to the lost sword. We were just taking about in one of my classes."
"So your saying that this map leads to the lost sword used to defeat the Adeds."
Mr. Timothy's face had brightened
"Yes, at least part of it."
"What do you mean?"
"The Jonathan brothers decided that no man should really have as much power as the lost sword so they took the map and split it into four pieces. Then they hid the four pieces. What we're looking at here is the second part of the map.
I could tell Mr. Timothy was disappointed.
"Do you want me to put the map into safe keeping for you?" Mr. Sanders asked politely
"No, that won't be necessary. You may leave now."
Mr. Sanders nodded his head and left without another word.
"You can go too Ryan. Thank you for what you have told me."
I took the map carefully folded it and put it into my pocket. I didn't know if Mr. Timothy wanted me to leave it there or not, but he wasn't saying anything so I left.
Before my next class I told Isaac, Jacob, Sydney, Aubrey, and Courtney what I overheard Mr. Timothy and Mrs. Garcia talking about.
"If something isn't done about this we will all lose our powers." Aubrey said as if it wasn't already obvious.
"I don't know what we can do. If we go against Peter there's no chance we will win." Jacob added
"Unless we found the sword." Sydney muttered
I don't think anyone else heard her but me. "Are you crazy?"
"If we find the other parts to the map and then follow it to the sword we can restore everyone's powers and defeat Peter once and for all." This time she spoke up and we all heard her.
"Do you know how dangerous that would be?" Isaac said taking directly to Sydney.
"Do you know what will happen to everyone if we don't."
That shushed everyone and we all sat down in our seats until the teacher came out.
"Hello class, I'm Mr. Arnson. As you know this is weaponry class so we won't be doing much in our seats. If you didn't know already I'm only a substitute. Mr. Hossom had a terrible accident and won't be back for some time. I'm going to tell you right away that I know nothing about weapons and I so I will be able to teach you nothing so look for help from your classmates. If you follow me I will show you where you can get your protective gear.
We went outside to a little shack where we found armor. It took me awhile to figure out how to get it on and adjust it so that it fit. Isaac handed me a sword and for a moment I just stared at it but then I grabbed it carefully. Not aware of it weight. The tip dropped to the ground. A bit embarrassed I lifted it up.
