The Forbidden Room

Sydney

I opened my eyes and light flooded through. I squinted until my eyes adjusted. I was in a bed and from my surroundings it looked like a hospital room. There were white walls, bedspreads, and sheets. Aubrey was looking at me with concern then suddenly her face lit up and she said "She's awake ma'am"
A nurse rushed over to me and put her hand to my forehead, then grabbed a clip board and wrote something down.
"Are you okay?" Aubrey asked.
"I think so, what happened?"
"We were in the virtual world when you passed out so they shut it down and we brought you here."
"Where's here?"
"In the Institutes own personal hospital."
The nurse came back over. "Stand up please."
As I did I studied her she reminded me of pictures I'd seen of my mother when she was in her twenties. She had a thick brown hair that had been curled and pulled back with a headband. Her eyes looked almost like little chocolates. She wore a simple white dress. She had a name tag pined to it which read Carrie.
She asked me if I felt dizzy at all.
Before I could answer there was a knock on already open door. Isaac stepped into the room.
Suddenly I forgot about going home. My eyes locked on Isaac. He walked over to me, put his hand on my arm, and asked "Are you all right? I heard what happened." His hand dropped. "It's funny though because Ryan passed out when he was in the virtual world too. I'm supposed to take you to Mr. Timothy if you're feeling better. Are you?"
"What? Oh, yah I'm feeling fine"
"Then your free to leave." The nurse told me.

I followed Isaac to Mr. Timothy's office where Ryan was already seated. He looked a little pale and he had dark circles under his eyes, I hoped he was okay.
"Please, sit down." Mr. Timothy said motioning me to a chair.
I sat down next to Ryan.
Mr. Timothy folded his hands and cleared his throat. "I have something very important to discuss with you two. Today during your virtual class something that hasn't happened in over a hundred years happened. Both of you lost consciousness at the same exact time."
I imagined Ryan making a joke saying oh my we fell unconscious at the same time? No way! In a really sarcastic voice, but he didn't look in the mood for jokes.
"That's not that weird is it? It is a little odd I guess but nothing to make a big deal about, right?" I asked
Mr. Timothy continued without answering my questions. "We did some research and it is confirmed now Sydney, Ryan, you two are bonded.
Ryan and I exchanged confused faces.
"This means that what happens to you" he said pointing to Ryan, "happens to you." He pointed to me. "So today when you used so much power to create a hologram before you were ready and you fainted. So Ryan also fainted. You will also be able to communicate with each other simply by thinking it. It doesn't sound like much really, but there's one more thing you should know. Since your bonded you can bond your powers to create more power then ever before. I know this sounds amazing but there is a catch. If you use this you could possibly kill yourselves if it's not done properly and it's extremely difficult, only the most skilled people would even attempt to do this. So be careful use this only if absolutely necessary or not at all. You have the rest of the day off from your classes so rest, think about what I said and I'll see you tonight."
For the first time since I entered Mr. Timothy's office Ryan spoke. "What do you mean tonight?"
"At the campfire of course. It was on the announcements this morning. We have a campfire at the beginning of every week. We roast hotdogs, make s'mores, play night games, and have fun. It starts tonight at 7:30 don't be late"
"I'll see you then." I said smiling politely and walking out of his office, Ryan right at my heels.
I walked to my cabin where Aubrey was waiting for me.
"What did Mr. Timothy want? You aren't in trouble are you?" Aubrey asked
I told her about what Mr. Timothy had said but didn't give her a chance to say anything. I told her I was going to take a nap. I lay down on the hard mattress and wrapped my self up in a blanket that I had wished for the night before. I thought I'd never sleep, until my head hit the pillow and I dozed off.

I looked at the clock it read 7:00. I knew I should get up to get ready for the campfire tonight but I didn't want to leave the warmth of the bed. Finally I got up and changed clothes since the ones I was wearing had wrinkled from sleeping in them. Aubrey was gone, probably in one of her classes. I put on a thin jacket and walked outside where a few girls were talking. I walked over to them hoping they were going to the campfire.
"Hi I'm Sydney, you guys wouldn't by chance be going to the campfire would you."
"Yah, I'm Lilly by the way." The girl on the right said
"And I'm Hazel" said the other girl
They were both very pretty. Lilly had brown hair and had very tanned skin. She wore sweatpants and a sweatshirt that said Love in sparkly letters. Hazel had blond hair and pale skin. She wore dark skinny jeans and a light jacket.
We walked to the campfire together were I found Aubrey waiting for me.
"Did you enjoy your nap?"
I gave her a smile in reply.
Soon Ryan, Isaac, and Jacob showed up. The color had returned to Ryan's face.
Isaac walked over to me. He looked especially Hanson tonight. His face looked perfect like a model from a magazine. His tousled brown hair blew in the wind. His face was kind. He had high cheek bones, and eyebrows that arched perfectly over his memorizing deep green eyes. I could see flecks of gold and silver in them too. Muscles rippled down his lean fit body."Do you want to be my group?"
"Group?" I asked coming back to earth
"For the night games we have to get in groups of five or six as are teams."he explained.
"Oh, I'd love to be in your group. Can Aubrey be in our group too?"
"Sure, and Ryan and Jacob are in our group too"
"Okay, great."
Suddenly Mr. Timothy came out with a microphone in his hand. "Thanks for coming everyone. Tonight's night game is Mission Impossible."
A chorus of cheers went around.
Mr. Timothy continued " You will be given a territory to protect from other teams. In the center of your territory will be Glow balls, each team must retrieve one glow ball from each team without being caught. The only way to get caught is if you are on another teams territory and they zap you with a taser gun that everyone will receive over there." Said Mr. Timothy pointing to the left. "Physical contact is allowed, just try not to seriously hurt anyone. If someone is hurt please push the help button in red that is located on your tasers. One last thing the only way to get a glow ball is to stop outside the circle the glow balls will be in which will be outlined in white then go in the circle without using any of your gifts. We figured many of you would not listen to this so we made it so that once you step into the circle any powers will not work. Once you grab a glow ball your safe until you step out of the circle again. And once you do step out you can use your gifts again. Any questions?"
When no one replied Mr. Timothy said "Then let the games begin!"
There was a lot of cheering and pushing and shoving to get the tasers first. Someone knocked me over right into Isaacs arms.
"Sorry" I said getting up. My face probably was beat red.
When we finally got our tasers we started heading to our territory. I saw a girl standing alone. She looked sad. Her eyes were watery.
I walked over to her and asked "Are you alright?"
She sniffled then said "I'm fine" trying not to let me see her tears eyes.
I didn't know what to say. There was an awkward Moment of silence. "Do you have a team?" I asked
"No" she sniffled
"Do you want to be on my team?"
"Sure"
"I'm Sydney by the way."
"I'm Sara."
We walked to our territory and we decided that Aubrey, Ryan, and Sara would stay in the territory to protect it. Jacob would go single. We figured it would be easier for him since he can see in the dark and we can't. Isaac, and I would go together to the other territories to collect the glow balls. I loved the thought that Isaac had chosen me to be his parter.
We huddled together and yelled "Team on three, One, Two, Three, Team!" Then I heard Mr. Timothy's voice from the speakers saying "Players to your starting positions." He paused then "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Isaac and used our super speed till the edge of the territory line. While Jacob headed in the opposite direction. I heard a twig snap towards a bush so I shot my taser gun almost on instinct. I heard a groan and someone fell from behind the bush. It was a boy a little younger then me. Isaac patted me on the back "Nice shot" he said through a pearly white smile.
"Thanks"
We continued on without much difficulty. When we got to one of the other teams circle we hid in the shadows of a bush so they wouldn't see us. The team had four people surrounding the circle. I figured they must have two other people trying to get the glow balls.
I rested my hand on the ground but i placed it on some leaves making a crinkling sound that attracted the attention of one of the girls guarding the circle. The girl looked in towards the bush. Slowly she crept towards us hardly making a sound.
Isaac looked at me. I couldn't read his facial expression.
I avoided his eye contact embarrassed that I had messed up in front of him.
"I think our only chance is to make a brake for it I'll come out first and try to distract them. Then while their attention is on me, you sneak into the circle and grab a glow ball. You'll probably have to get back to our territory on your own because once your in I'm going to head back so I don't get caught, got it"
I nodded. The girl was nearly to us.
"Good luck" he whispered and jumped out of hiding. The girl shot at him but he dogged. He ran for it two of the four girls following. While the other two girls heads were turned I ran as fast as I could to the circle.mBoth of the girls shot at me but both missed. I was in the circle now but not to the glow balls. Another shot missed me by nearly an inch. The glow balls were only a few feet away and then finally I touched the glow ball. It was cold and felt good on my sweaty skin. I stood there for a moment catching my breathe and waiting for my heart rate to drop a little. I figured I might since they could shoot at me now that I had the glow ball. I only had one problem now. How to get out.
