Zeke's POV

All of our stuff had already been moved in.

"Before I take y'all inside I wanted to give you something son." My Dad said as he walked over and put his arm around my shoulder.

"What is it?" I asked a little amused, what more could there possibly be than this mansion?

"Well I figured since you're not in New York anymore... it's time you learn how to drive." He said as he pointed his garage opener at the garage. The clean white garage doors opened and revealed an all black Brand new BMW.

"You've got to be shitting me!" I shouted excitedly.

"Language." My mom scolded.

"It's an early birthday present so it's from your Mother and I, Happy Birthday son."

My mom opened her purse and pulled out a set of keys, "I've been wanting to give these to you for a week already."

I hugged them and then jogged over to see my new car.

The sleek car was a stunner for sure, fresh black paint, shiny black rims, the only problem, I can't drive.

My Dad seemed to read my mind "don't worry, I've already enrolled you in the local driving school, you have a month to learn if your going to be driving it to school."

. . . . .

A week went by and everyone in town seemed to know my Mother and I by name already, it was expected seeing how my father is mayor of the town. My Mom enjoyed the perks that came along with being the mayors wife, I on the other hand understood that everything I did now until the day I moved away from this place would be closely looked at.

As another week was getting ready to pass my mom sent out the invitations to her and my Dads engagement party. My Uncle Brian and Aunt Izzy were always over along with both my Uncle Jolen and Aunt Kimberly.

My Aunts became my Moms wedding planners and my Uncles seemed to be my Dads right hand men. My older cousins were here and there and would show up from time to time, fortunately today was one of those days.

"Hey Zeke you wanna come with us?" My cousin Brody asked.

"Where we going?"

"We're just going back to our apartment and we'll probably order some pizzas and go swimming." His girlfriend Shay said.

I didn't hesitate to accept, being around adults since I've been here was becoming boring. I got into his truck and we left soon after.

Brody lived in the neighboring town of Avee, this town mirrored my new town of Paycos in its perfection yet it seemed to be more humble. The main difference was this town seemed more scenic whereas Dads town had more buildings.

We drove passed a large lake that the sun seemed to glimmer off of. The long curvy road cut through a lush forest and eventually a modern apartment building revealed itself.

All I could see was matte glass windows. The glass apartments were amazing and reminded me instantly of New York and I grew homesick.

"Hey maybe we'll run into Derek and Gio." Shay said.

"Who are they?" I asked.

"They live in these apartments too. Their Dads are kind of, important around here." Brody admitted. "Don't worry, you'll meet them soon enough."

"Are they cool or douchey?" I questioned.

"They're a couple of standup guys." Brody said.

"They were both big football jocks and brought more trophies to the town. Because of their parents they're kinda kept on a short leash." Shay began to giggle a little and Brody didn't seem to like it.

"Lets just get into the apartment." She added after her small scorning.

"Oh I didn't bring any trunks, to be honest I just wanted to get out of the house." I confessed.

"It's cool I have an extra pair you can borrow." Brody offered. As he went to get the swimtrunks Shay called for the pizza. He came back already in his swim gear and gave me a pair of shorts and a towel. I went into the restroom and changed when I came back out Brody and I headed to the pool while Shay waited for the pizza and her friend to show up.

"So how's Texas treating you?" Brody asked, he is one of my Uncle Brian's kids and he's still eight years older than me, I needed to make some actual friends my own age soon.

"It's alright I guess, kinda sucks being at home all the time. Moms busy planning the wedding and Dads busy running the town."

"It'll get easier once your in school, at least you won't be around old people all day. So you still into Lacrosse?"

We made small talk and eventually Shay and her friend Tracy joined us. Tracy didn't talk much and Shay and Brody were too lovey for my taste. I excused myself and went back up to their apartment. I showered and got back into my clothes. When I got out of the shower I ran into them in the living room.

"We're gonna rinse off really quick but you guys help yourselves to drinks and pizza." Shay offered kindly.

Her friend stepped into the restroom I was in and changed really quick then came out and made herself a plate of food.

"So Shay tells me your from New York." Tracy began.

"Yeah, Upper Eastside born and raised."

"So what do you think of Texas?"

"Big, hot, and dusty."

"Oh," she laughed a little "then what's New York like, I've always wanted to go there every since I was little" she confessed.

"Crowded, dirty, and loud." I smirked at my snarky remark. Tracy didn't talk to me anymore after that.

When Brody took me back home I thanked him then went straight up to my bedroom. My new room was large, as was my bed. And while initially I was amped at my new digs, now it only emphasized how lonely I really am.

At dinner I didn't talk much.

"What's wrong son?" My dad asked concerned.

"Nothing, just bored I guess."

"Well you went with your cousin today you shouldn't be too bored." My mom countered.

"Yeah, but then I came back to the house and guess what, your busy with the wedding and Dads busy with work." I said a little depressed. "It's not exactly fun around here when only adults come to this house."

The topic was dropped after that.

The next day my Dad thought he had the perfect solution to help with my boredom, he got me a puppy.

While the chocolate Lab pup was something i wanted when i was 4 it was more of a responsibility than a boredom killer.

I spent the day at the town park with my new dog, my first friend since moving to Texas, I named him Bronx.
