When Destiny Collides

Dinner pt1

Tripp's POV

I woke up with a jolt as the alarm on my cellphone sounded off loudly.

I looked at the time for confirmation. My head, body, and eyes felt like I had just drifted off to sleep but it seems as though I gotten a full six hours of sleep as the clock now flashed five past ten.

Against every fiber in my body I sat up, rubbed my hand along my face and through my hair then fought back a yawn as I unwillingly got out of bed and stepped back into the jeans I had worn the night before.

After brushing my teeth I headed straight down stairs to grab some coffee, I would need it to get my day going.

"Mornin' Princess."

I gave my sisters mate a bored sort of stare. I've known David all my life as he grew up just down the street from us, he was always Evie-Lynn's best friend and when they shifted it turned out they were mates. It was almost like they just knew, even when they were kids, that they were meant to be with each other.

"Why do you have to be such a douche David?"

He smirked playfully "why do you have to be so adorable?"

I shook my head.

"Hey c'mon, you know I'm no good with people...thats why I work with animals."

I couldn't help but laugh at his reasoning for his chosen career, but laughing while pouring fresh coffee into a mug, when you aren't wearing anything but a pair of jeans isn't exactly the ideal situation.

"Ahh, son of a bitch!" I groaned as a few drops splashed against my abdomen.

"Hey cool it." Evie-Lynn sounded as she walked into the kitchen "haven't I told you to put clothes on BEFORE you come down for the day?"

"Burn." David dissed then laughed as he suddenly realized his own pun. "Ha, literally."

"Charmer, you too." She scolded David, using her own personal pet name for him so he would know to listen. "Now both of you had better be on your best behavior tonight."

"Why wouldn't I be on my best behavior in front of my own mate?"

"Aww do we finally get to meet her?" David asked teasingly before getting serious. "So what's she like?"

"Beautiful." I blurted out, David and Evie-Lynn both exchanged looks before smiling at my blunder. "Maddie's very special, she's spirited and loving, if she wants something she goes after it, and while she has a very upbeat type of personality she can be shy at times."

"Well we can't wait to meet her." My sister said, "okay, so I'm getting off early so that I can cook but I will need you to pick everything up for dinner because I won't have time and David couldn't get off early."

I nodded my understanding as she pulled out a grocery list from her purse.

"Hey are you picking her up tonight?" David asked.

"Yeah, why?"

"You should get her some flowers, you know, she'll like 'em and her parents will be impressed." He advised.

I thought about it for a second before deciding on taking his advice, Maddie's a girly girl, I'm sure she'll like flowers.

After I grabbed everything on Evie-Lynn's list I headed home to drop everything off and then headed over to my house.

I had noticed last time we were all here that the yard needed to be tended to.

After grabbing some gas for the lawn mower and weed-eater I finally got there and set off to work. With the Texas heat beating down on me I didn't hesitate to take my shirt off and continue to work on the grass.

The day was calm and I couldn't help but let my thoughts travel off to the subject of my beautiful mate. Her brilliant face filled my head and I began working with a permanent smile etched on my face.

"Hey boo, thinking of me?"

The errant words pulled me from my thoughts and I turned around sharply.

"You look sexy." Dominique added.

"What are you doing here?" I asked boredly as I turned the machine off.

"I was at my cousins house getting ready for a birthday party when I saw you out here, I didn't know you live here."

"I don't." I bit out.

She shrugged her disinterest.

"Look you should leave, and stop coming around here." I said, "come to think of it, stop coming around me or my mate for that matter."

I turned back to the machine, and just as I was going to turn it back on I heard her mutter.

"She won't have anything to say soon enough."

I turned back with a violent swiftness, and just like I had done to Maddie I pinned her against a tree. But the difference was I now had her pinned against the tree by her throat. I knew my eyes would be dark black and I could feel my teeth elongating as my wolf felt that someone had threatened our mate.

Fear ran clearly across her eyes, I snapped my teeth close to her neck and let my guttural growl rip out causing her to shake as tears began to well up in her eyes.

I'm not typically a violent person, nor would I even call myself a hot head...but the minute I found my mate I became both possessive and protective.

I reigned my wolf back in and felt my teeth go back to normal, I loosened my grip a bit, "leave, stop coming around me, don't talk about my mate anymore, NEVER threaten her in my presence and don't ever come back here or so help me Dominique you will pay."

Still obviously shaken she quickly nodded her head and I removed my hand and watched as she practically ran away back down the street. I decided to get this finished and get away from this street as quick as I could.

My mood was drastically altered than what it was earlier and I knew I would be on edge for the rest of the day until my mate was in my arms, her scent calming both me and my wolf.

I looked at my watch, "shit." I still had a lot of time to kill before I would see her tonight.

After I finished my yard work I went inside and rinsed off before changing into some clean yet old jeans and a t-shirt, I still had flowers to buy.

I drove down the street as I listened to Ozzy Osbourne's greatest hits and pulled up to the flower shop just as Crazy Train was starting. I walked in and got a quizzical look from the lady behind the counter, I wondered if it was because she had heard the music I was listening to or if it was because I didn't look like her normal cliental.

She cleared her throat and smiled, "how may I help you today sir?"

So just in case you forgot Evie-Lynn is a nurse and as was implied earlier David works with animals as he is a Vet.
