Chapter 4 (Angel Boy)
“What the hell?” I mumbled to myself, staring at the window as another small pebble banged against it.
I slowly got up, walking over to the window, scared of what I may see. I looked down. Warren. I opened up the window, rolling my eyes. “What?!” I whisper yelled, glaring at him.
“I have my apology ready.”
“Okay, go,” I said, leaning out the window to hear more.
Warren shook his head. “I can’t really say it here. You need to come with me.”
I rolled my eyes. “Look, if you are trying to be the romantic prince who tries to sneak the girl out at night, I am not the girl to try it on.”
Warren gave me a small smile. “You think I do this for many girls? No, you are actually the first. Please, come down and let me say my apology.”
I sighed, exasperated. “Come on! I’m tired!”
Warren laughed. “Yeah, like I’ll believe that one. You look pretty wide awake to me.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “No, seriously. I am extremely tired. Goodnight,” I said, beginning to close the window before he cut me off.
“Lacey, come on! You said I had the chance to say my apology and now I have it ready! A deal is a deal, right?”
I sighed. He had a point. “Fine, but I don’t want to get in trouble. How am I supposed to sneak out?”
I watched as Warren’s eyes moved to the tree, whose branches ran from my window, all the way to the ground. He gave me a knowing smile. “I can’t climb down trees!” I said, a bit frightened.
Warren laughed. “You can try. I bet you’ve never climbed a tree before. Now’s your chance!”
“But I’m scared!”
“If you fall, I’ll catch you!”
“Yeah, sure you would do that. You’d probably step out of the way to avoid being crushed by me.”
“Yeah, probably.”
My eyes jumped to him, my mouth wide open. “What?!”
Warren gave me a dead pan look. “I was kidding. Now, come down. I want to do this before the sun comes up.”
I sighed, before reaching out to grab a branch. I stepped onto the tree’s body, reaching to grab another branch. I was doing pretty well. I was only about one meter off the ground now. Too bad the branch I had to grab was far out of my reach. “Ugh, I can’t reach it!” I said, straining to grab it.
I moved a bit to get closer to it but slipped, losing my footing. “Ahh!” I yelled, closing my eyes to prepare myself for the impact.
I fell, not on the ground, but in Warren’s expectant arms. “Told you,” he said, a smug smile on his face.
I rolled my eyes. “Whatever. Let’s go.”
Warren put me down on the ground. “Actually, I need your help carrying something.”
He stepped away for a bit, pulling something out from the corner.
I stared at the object he was referring to. “No. Way,” I said, staring wide eyed at what he brought.

“Help me push it into the water.”
I shook my head, shaking nervously. “I can’t go canoeing! I will drown!”
Warren frowned. “That’s why you have a life jacket on.”
