Chapter 20 (Angel Boy)

I looked up at Warren’s house as Hayden dropped me off. “I don’t think I can do this. I’m going to be sick,” I said, gulping nervously.

Hayden chuckled, patting my shoulder. “Don’t be nervous. He likes you already, all you have to do is tell him that you like him back. I’m sure he’ll be happy.”

I frowned. Warren’s room light was on, indicating that he was still awake. “I’m still scared,” I said, turning back to Hayden.

Hayden unlocked the car door. “Just go. Trust me. Everything is going to go well.”

I gave him a small smile. “Thank you for everything, Hayden.”

Hayden shook his head. “Don’t thank me. It should be me thanking you for telling the truth,” he said, shrugging.

I got out of the car and watched him drive off. Oh well, no turning back now.

I knocked on the door. Thomas opened it with a smile. “Hey Lacey, you here to see Warren?” he asked.

I nodded. “May I?”

Thomas opened the door wider so I could come in. “Sure, up you go.”

Every step upstairs added another quickening of my heartbeat. I was pretty sure that I was going to have a heart attack by the time I got on the top stair. Obviously, that never happened. I opened Warren’s bedroom door.

Warren’s eyes lit up as he saw me. He smiled brightly, lying cozily in his bed. “Hey, how was your date?” he asked.

I smiled, getting up on his bed so I could sit facing him. “It was good,” I said, nodding.

Warren raised an eyebrow. “Just good? No excellent or whatever?” he asked with a chuckle.

I sighed, scooting closer to him. “Actually, Hayden and I decided to be just friends.”

Warren frowned. “How come?”

I bit my lip. I was not going to go straight to the point. I was going to take this as slowly as I can. “Well, first things first, how are you feeling?” I asked, patting his leg gently.
