Chapter 13 (Angel Boy)
Just as I suspected, I slept that night, thinking about the kiss. I tossed and turned until I finally went to sleep. What have I done? The kiss… Was magical. There was definitely something there but I couldn’t put my finger on it. The kiss made me want to fall for Warren, which was something I did not want to do. I didn’t want to fall for someone who wouldn’t fall for me.

I awoke to a knock at the bedroom door. “Sexy, I made you breakfast! Are you up yet?” Warren’s muffled voice said through the door.
My heart raced. “Uh, yeah! Come in!” I called out, sitting up in bed.
Warren opened the door, a big grin on his face. “Good morning, gorgeous. I hope you like sunny side up,” he said, holding a tray of two sunny side up eggs and a glass of orange juice.
I took the tray, giving him an awkward smile. “Thanks,” I said, quickly gobbling up the eggs so I wouldn’t be able to talk to him.
“So, how did you sleep?” Warren asked, sitting down at the foot of the bed.
I nodded, mouthful of eggs. Warren chuckled. “That seems nice. Did you dream about anything in particular?” he asked, grinning.
I shook my head. “Mm-mm,” I said, not swallowing the eggs.
Warren smiled. “Are you ever going to swallow those eggs?”
I shook my head again. “Mm-mm.”
Warren sighed. “It’s about last night, isn’t it?”
I nodded, finally swallowing the eggs. “Uh huh.”
Warren frowned. “I don’t see what the big deal is. Why aren’t you talking to me? You should be dying to talk to me after that kiss,” he said honestly and a bit sadly.
Truth is, I really did what to talk to him but it was just so awkward. “I don’t know. I’m just confused and embarrassed,” I said, shrugging.
Warren scooted closer to me on the bed, a sad look on his face. “What do you have to be confused and embarrassed about? It should be me,” he said, with a light-hearted laugh.
I frowned. “Well, you say you don’t want to be attached to anyone. Do you know how damn confusing that is? Then you go and kiss me.”
Warren smirked. “I’m sorry to confuse you.”
I rolled my eyes. “Yeah,” I said, taking a long drink of my orange juice.
“Well, I don’t know. I was doing fine this whole time and then you move here and mess everything up!” Warren said, his tone now frustrated.
I glared at him. “What, so this is my entire fault? I move here and I mess everything up?” I asked, angrily.
Warren sighed. “Just listen, okay? Before you moved here, I was fine being the whole player type of person. I didn’t have to worry about heartbreak or anything like that but then you moved here,” – he said, pausing to take a breathy laugh – “and now I’m finding it hard to stick to my own rules,” he said, angrily.
I crossed my arms. “So what does that have to do with the kiss?”
Warren laughed again. His laugh, right now, seemed like a more exasperated laugh than a humorous one. “I kissed you, Lacey! I kissed you and not the other way around! This also doesn’t just have to do with the kiss!” he said, almost yelling.
