Chapter 12 (Angel Boy)

As it turns out, Hayden wanted to go out with me too, adding to Mikayla and Jennifer’s excitement. Some part of me told me that this was wrong, even though I knew Hayden was a nice guy. Something just told me he wasn’t the one for me.

“I’ll call you later!” Mikayla called out from her car as she dropped me off.

“Okay!” I called back, watching as she drove off.

I went to my front door, where a note was taped:

Dear Lacey,

Sorry but we had errands to run. If you want, Warren is home. Why don’t you go and hang out with him for awhile?

Uncle Sam & Aunt Elise

I ripped the note off of the door, crumpling it up and stuffing it into my pocket. I went over and knocked on Warren’s door. He opened it with a smile almost immediately. “Hey sexy, how was your girl’s day?” he said, a smug smile on his face.

I rolled my eyes, stepping into the house. “It was fine. We watched movies and ate red velvet cupcakes. Her brother is hot,” I said, laughing.

Warren frowned. “Who? Hayden?”

I nodded. “Yup. He is definitely some eye candy.”

Warren continued to frown. “But not as hot as me, right?” he asked, running a hand through his hair.

I laughed, patting him on the back. “You guys are tied for first.”

Warren rolled his eyes. “Well, thanks for leaving me here. Do you know how bored I was without you? Nice to know who you choose friend wise,” he said, jokingly.

I laughed, as we walked up to his room. “Don’t be so dramatic. You’re just pissed off because I said you were tied for first with Hayden.”

Once we got into Warren’s room, Warren sat down on his bed, a worried expression on his face. “I don’t know… What if he is another Jake?”

I scoffed. Hayden definitely didn’t seem like it and if he was, man! What a good actor he was. “Don’t be so silly. Hayden’s not that guy. He’s actually very nice and soft spoken. No need to punch him out,” I said, laughing.

Warren sighed. “So what? Are you guys going out on a date or something?”

I nodded. “Yup! I don’t know when, though. Mikayla is going to give me the details soon. Just please, don’t try to be the whole over protective older brother type. Everyone thinks we are dating.”

Warren frowned. “First of all, I’m clearly not trying to be your brother. Okay? That’s just sick. And if everyone thinks we are dating, don’t you think we should give them a little show?” he asked, winking.

“Well, how is that sick? We are just friends. Nothing more, right? And friends don’t try to put on a show for everyone to see. That’s what friends with benefits are for and we are not that. We are just friends,” I said, sitting down on the bed beside him.

Warren looked like he was deep in thought a bit. Suddenly, he looked up at me. “You never know… Hayden could be this Jake type of person. That’s how it was with Jake and look how he turned out to be.”

I rolled my eyes. “See, there you go again with the over protective brother thing. It’s kind of annoying for you to not trust me.”

Warren smirked. “Well, I did trust you on that date with Jake and look what happened? I had to come get you in the middle of nowhere.”
