Spike’s POV
Grr. I am tired. When Ellie said that the dorms are loud, she wasn’t kidding. Why the kid next door insists on blasting heavy metal music at four in the morning, I’ll never know. Speaking of Ellie, where am I supposed to meet her? She wasn’t at breakfast, so I ended up sitting with this kid named Jasper that I met yesterday.
There’s Matsukaze. Maybe she’ll know.
There is a huge crowd around the message board.
“Only the first day of school…”
“First- years too…”
“I heard that Lord Death asked them personally…”
“Hey Masukaze! I’m confused, what’s going on?”
“Oh hey person I don’t know. What did you say? Sorry it’s a little loud over here!”
“I’m Spike, Ellie’s weapon? We met at lunch yesterday…”
“Okay, whatever you say but you’re not her weapon…”
“Yes, I am! We met yesterday and we agreed tha-“
She interrupts me, “No, you two aren’t partners. She is currently on a mission with Tristan.”
What? That doesn’t make sense. Why wouldn’t she at least tell me that she doesn’t want to be my partner?
This doesn’t feel like her. But I don’t even really know Ellie. I felt like she was honest at least.
“What the hell is this crowd about?”
I look over to see a girl with caramel colored skin. Her hair is braided down to the middle of her back. She is asking me.
“Um well, apparently, two first- years already went on a mission. One of them is Lord Death’s kid and the other has lived here for six years. So ya, it’s getting some attention I guess…”
“Oh. Cool I guess? Why do these people care? It’s not like they’re the ones on the mission… The name’s Fury, by the way.”
“I’m Spike, I’m a first year scythe.”
“I’m a first year too. I’m a katana sword,” she tells me.
“Nice,” I say.
“Do you wanna come with me to grab some coffee? I slept too late and missed breakfast,” she asks me.
“Ya, sure.” I smile. Fury seems cool.
Ellie’s POV
Well that was a disaster. Sure, we defeated the kishin soul, but I am NOT a gun- meister. I was born to use scythes. Just, because I have an adaptive soul doesn’t mean that I am comfortable with every weapon. Sure, I can use any weapon, but that doesn’t mean I am going to be good at it.
We are sitting on the train in silence.
Tristan isn’t meant to be a weapon. He’s a Shinigami, but his mom is a weapon so he has the ability to transform into a gun. Truth is, I don’t even think he wants to be a gun- meister. That was more his father.
“Alright, so we’re not meant to be partners. But we already knew that! I was meant to wield a scythe and you… You’re a Shinigami for death’s sake! It would be a crime if you aren’t using a weapon!” I am just kinda spurting to break the silence.
“It’s not that. I am not upset that that didn’t work out. I just wish we could be partners. We are both so powerful! Together, we would be unstoppable!”
