Cameron’s POV
I walk down the hallway, completely befuddled. I am so lost. I got directions to the dorms from some freshman, but I can’t remember what he said. Was it a left, then a right or a right, then a left? Well, whichever it was, I am disoriented and confused.
I walk down a small hallway. In the corner, leaning against the wall with her head in her hands, sits Ellie.
I walk up to her, and I know she’s heard me, but she doesn’t stir.
“Hey,” I say.
She doesn’t reply, then I see the wire. She’s listening to music. I take her lead and turn on some Pearl Jam.
After a couple of minutes, she says something.
“Whuh,” I say.
“What are you listening to?”
“Pearl Jam, what about you?”
“I can’t do this,” she groans, bringing her hands to her face, “You’re too similar. I can’t do this.”
She stands up and makes to leave, but out of some strange instinct, I grab her hand.
She spins around and stares at me. Damn, she’s gorgeous.
“Please. I don’t understand.”
“I can’t do this. I can’t be near you. Leave me alone,” she says, ripping her hand out of mine, running away.
I sit down, running my hand through my hair. Why am I so connected to this girl? She’s only been rude to me. She acts like she hates me. Why do I care though?
Allie wasn’t anything like her. Allie, with her strawberry blonde hair and mischievous dimply smile. Her dancing, bright brown eyes…
Allie was cute. She was adorable and flirty. Ellie is intense and gorgeous. She doesn’t care about me and I don’t even know her, but why am I so drawn to her?
“Ellie,” I hear someone call.
“ELLIE. COME HERE. I WANT TO TALK TO YOU. PLEASE,” some girl yells.
Eva walks around the corner, “Oh. Hey, Cameron.”
“Hey. What’s up?”
“Not much. Trying to find Ellie. Have you seen her?”
“Yea. She ran away from me.”
Eva groans, “I’m sorry. It’s really hard to have a sister as moody as her.”
WHAT?!?
“You’re sisters?!?”
“Oh, haha, I guess I forgot to tell you! Yea, Ellie’s my twin sister,” she says sheepishly.“Wow, I had no idea,” I say.
“Yea, no one really does. We look nothing alike. She’s gorgeous, smart and really powerful. I got some good traits, but I’m not perfect like her,” Eva says tiredly.
“Don’t say that. You’re wicked smart and strong. Ellie might just be a freak of nature or something, because you are freaking amazing.”
Eva smiles, “If only everyone thought that.”
I smile, leaning into her a little to nudge her, “I’m sure they do.”
“Just a couple months ago, my parents didn’t even know she was their daughter, now she’s all they ever think about,” Eva says.
“Soul’s really proud of you, I can tell. I’m sure they are just worried about her right now.”
“Yea, I hope.”
Eva looks up at me and smiles.
Eva’s POV
At first, I wondered why they let Cameron in so late in the year. Transfers like this are strange and don’t happen usually.
But now, I see. He’s here for Ellie. Of course he is. He is strong and kind. Even just sitting next to him made me happy. This is Lord Death’s and the parent’s ploy to get Ellie a new partner.
Honestly, I think he’s perfect for Ellie. He will be powerful and caring to Ellie. But, I can’t help but be jealous too. He is amazing, but he is going to fall in love with Ellie. They all do. They all love her gorgeous looks, her perfection in the classroom and her ability on the battlefield. Sometimes, I wish that I could get some of the attention she gets. Cameron makes me feel like I do.
What also kills me is that I know Ellie will never appreciate him. She only and will only care about Spike. She might eventually relent and make Cameron her partner, but she will never let him really be HER weapon. She can’t. He deserves more.
It’s funny. They don’t know their own destiny yet, but everyone else does.
