Ellie’s POV
We shuffle down the DWMA hallways tiredly. It’s been a long couple of days.
I pause in front of Lord Death’s door to collect my thoughts, before pushing the door open.
“ELLIE! EVA!” Suddenly, I am being stifled by a very relieved Maka. All the parents are there. They all look so relieved. Plus Ox and Kim, holding a newly born baby.
“Hey,” I say sheepishly rubbing my head, a trait I picked up from my father.
“Get off of me mom! So not cool,” Eva squeals.
Tristan squirms under Liz’s grasp, while Lord Death watches on. Matsukaze leaps into her mom’s arms and Black Star smiles.
Fury, Spike, Jasper, and Claire hang back awkwardly, watching the rejoicing families. That would have been me a month ago.
Soul walks up and pats me on the back, “How’d it go?”
“I’m tired,” I say simply, resting my head on his shoulder.
He smiles, “I bet.”
Lord Death comes over and gives me a hug, “I’m glad you’re all safe though. Come and sit.”
We sit down on the floor, on all of these pillows that Lord Death magically acquired. He sends Sid, who was standing by his side, to take the girl down to the dungeons to await questioning tomorrow.
“So, what happened?”
“We found them. We fought. They escaped,” I say simply. I lean over, resting on Spike’s shoulder.
“Who were they?”
“We don’t know. They were using some form of magic, but beyond that we don’t know,” Tristan says.
“Hmph,” the adults chorus. They all seem perplexed.
“Their names were Hecate and Lila. Ring any bells?”
“No…” All of the adults say.
“Yes,” Kim says hesitantly.
“What? You know of them?”
She bounces the baby in her arms a little.
“Of course I do. Hecate is a legend in the witch world.”
“Well… Tell us,” Black Star says.
“She went rogue, long before the DWMA- Witch treaty for peace was created. She was powerful, but she wanted control of the world. Her ideas were erratic, and her only supporter was her little sister. She thought all humans should die, and she wanted to create a superior species. Some even argue that she managed to.”
“Max,” I whisper.
Kim looks at me, and nods, “It makes a lot of sense now. She left the witch community fifty years before I was even born. She was excommunicated because of her insane beliefs. Her power though… Some said that she could even defeat Mabaa. If Hecate is really after you, we have issues.”
“She wasn’t that bad,” I say.
The entire room stares at me, trying to determine whether I’m being sarcastic or bluffing.
“But your Ellie,” Fury whispers, “Everyone is easy to you.”
“Well, if that’s what you’re asking. I actually had to fight her. She wasn’t the usual cake walk, but I know I can beat her.”
The room’s confused expressions change to terror.
“She’s that good,” Maka says staring at me.
“She’s good, and I think she has more tricks up her sleeve, but so do I.”
The whole room looks shocked, trying to make sense of what I just said. The invincible Ellie, having to actually fight someone? Unprecedented!
“Ellie was also making this a personal fight. She wasn’t attacking at her best, because this enemy was effecting her emotions. If she threw her emotions out of the mix, the fight would have been a lot easier for her. But, unfortunately, for this battle, part of the fight is overcoming the emotion that Hecate causes,” Spike says.
I look up at him. Sometimes I forget what a genius my weapon is.
“Ellie can defeat these bitches. She just has to focus and get over the pain,” he says simply.
I can’t help but laugh. I lean up and give him a little kiss on his jawline.
He blushes profusely, which makes it so much more adorable.
The adults are making eyes at each other, like aww young love, but I choose to ignore it. I can give a little kiss to my weapon if I want to. It doesn’t mean we are getting married.
“Spike’s right though. I have watched Ellie fight for years. This wasn’t her usual fight. It’s more then a physical fight, this time,” Tristan says drawing the attention away from us.
“Very well. You kids should go home. There isn’t anything else we can do tonight, and I bet you are all exhausted. Take tomorrow off to relax and decompress. We can discuss everything when you get back to school on Tuesday,” Lord Death says.
“Thank you Lord Death,” my team chants and they all leave.
I turn to go.
“Ellie.”
“Yes, Lord Death?”
“I just wanted to tell you that we are all so proud of you, and we’re here if you need anything, ever.”
“Thanks Lord Death, but you know me. I don’t require a lot to get stuff done. I’m fine for now. I love you all, good night!”
“Good night,” the adults say behind me.
At the DWMA, the lines between family and friends blur, and everyone becomes an aunt, uncle, cousin or best friend, I think to myself. I really do have the best family in the world.
So this is the promised double update! Thank you for 600+ reads!! I love you all so much and you are all amazing!!! XOXO
