Ellie’s POV

I walk into school holding Spike’s hand.  Everyone is staring at us.

I laugh nervously and Spike just smiles.

“Spike,” I say trying to pull out of his hand, “everyone is watching.”

“Mmm, so let’s give them what they want,” he says pulling my hand, so I fall on his chest.  He lifts my face up and kisses me.

I pull back, out of breath and laughing slightly.

“Are you happy now? Everyone is staring, still,” I grumble, walking ahead of him.

He just chuckles behind me, and follows me into the building.

The entire morning everyone watches us, talks about us and seems wary around us. What the hell?

“Meister- weapon dating…”

“How unprofessional…”

“But they do love each other…”

“So? They’re fifteen…”

“Slut…”

Spike just ignores them nonchalantly, but it really bothers me.  We sit down in Professor Stein’s class, and Spike rests his hand on my knee.

“Calm down,” he murmurs as class starts.

I look him in the eye and smile.  He’s right, whatever. These kids can calm down.

“Ellie and Spike please come to Lord Death’s chamber,” the PA shouts.

The entire class turns around and Ohhhhs like we are fourth grade.  I just groan.

I get up, dragging an annoyed Spike behind me. Fury shoots me a sympathetic look and Tristan stifles a laugh.

“Shut up,” I warn.

When we walk through the door, Spike gets tackled and lifted off the ground by my father.

“Who the hell do you think you are, dating my princess?”
“Dad,” I whine.

“Are you kidding me,” Spike says, “You too?”

“Dad! Put him down!”
“Shh, it’s okay.  He can’t bother you any more,” Lord Death says, wrapping me in his arms.

“Let go of me!!”

Lord Death and Soul keep yelling and making a commotion.

“Grahhh,” I yell, releasing my soul wavelength.  See, I can control my wavelength until I get really upset.

Lord Death releases me and Soul drops Spike.

“Would you all just stop? I can date whomever I like.  Get the hell off my case!”

“But,” Soul interjects.

“Oh, c’mon Soul. We all knew we’d have no option of who she’d date.  She just too opinionated,” Lord Death says.

“Gee, thanks,” I say sarcastically.

“I think it is perfectly okay if they date,” Maka adds as she enters the room, “Let Ellie make her own decisions.”

“Thank you, mom!”

“Now go back to class,” Maka says to me and Spike, before turning to Lord Death and Soul, “You two have to calm down.”

When we walk outside the room, Spike kisses me and takes my hand. We walk into class like that.  Suddenly, I don’t care what anyone thinks.  Professor Stein smirks and the rest of the class stares at us.  Whatever.

“Hey guys,” Fury says walking up to us after class, “I’m having a party on Friday, want to come?”

“Yup, we’re in,” I answer for Spike.

“Cool!”

Spike and I go out hunting and collect three souls. When we get back to the apartment, I collapse on the couch.

“Chinese food?”

“Chinese food.”

We call in an order, and turn on Modern Family.

“Ellie,” Spike says.

“Mmm?”

“I didn’t do any homework.”

I can’t but stifle a laugh, typical Spike.  I finished all of mine in school, but Spike was goofing off with Jack during our Study Hall.

“Whatever.”

“But I’m failing Stein’s class right now,” he says.

“Fine,” I say, “I’ll explain the lesson to you, then you do the questions.”

“But…”

I get up to get the text book and begin to read the chapter to him.

Three minutes later he is snoring.  Of course.

I can’t help but smile at his exhausted expression.

I should wake him up and force him to finish, but I’m not going to.

On the table, his phone vibrates.

One Message from Anna- the screen displays.

Anna?  Is she the pretty girl from our defense class?

Curiosity overpowers me and I reach for the phone.

“So you two are dating? Why would you date her, when you know how much I like you? Spike… You told me you didn’t like her like that and weren’t looking for a girlfriend.  I can’t believe you.  I can’t believe you would lie to me.”

Uh-oh. Spike’s in trouble.  I knew a lot of girls have crushes on him, but I didn’t realize any one was so open about it with him. I pang of jealousy hits me, before I realize he chose me.  I feel bad for this girl though.  It’s obvious that it hurt her.  Some guys have asked me out and told me they like me, and I didn’t even think that I might be hurting them.

I look at Spike.  Are we doing the right thing?  Maybe it’s too soon.

I shake those thoughts out of my head and go to bed.
