Chapter 3

“Sure thing! Sounds fun!” Brooke said, laughing her head off.

“What? You’re going to hurt a shark? You can’t do that! They’re our friends!” Pierce cried, causing a few people to look our way.

“Don’t get your fins in a bunch you big baby! We’re not going to hurt the shark! They’re our friends too you know! We’re just going to reason with it. We wouldn’t hurt it.” I said, laughingly.

Yeah, it’s true. Mermaids are friends with sharks, all fish in fact. Well, sometimes you might find a particular fish you don’t like, but that’s just because of what their thinking about. We communicate with them telepathically. We can hear their thoughts, and we can inject our thoughts to them. It’s a very cool setup.

What Brooke and I were planning to do was reason with the shark. We would go somewhere and change our legs back into tails and go talk with the shark. We would have to stay underwater the whole time though, we couldn’t let people see us. It wasn’t really a hard thing to do. But then Pierce freaked out.

“No, we can’t do that!” He said loudly, getting even more people to look at us.

“Pierce will you calm down? People are beginning to stare! Besides, we’re not going to hurt it. We just want to talk to it. Ok?” I said quietly. Most of the people were now looking straight at us.

“How can I calm down?” Pierce said angrily but (thankfully) quietly. “I can’t calm down when you two are going to go out there to try and reason with a shark! You’re going to get yourselves killed!” He said in an urgent whisper.

“Aww! Pierce is scared! Poor, Poor Pierce. Looks like we’re going to go without him huh Marina?” Brooke said with a smirk.

“Sure we are Brooke. We’ll leave little Piercy here while we go back to talk to the big mean shark. Bye Piercy!” I said happily.

“Fine! I’ll go with you guys, but only for your protection.” He grumbled.

“Our protection? Pft! We can take care of ourselves thank you very much.” I sid glaring at him. How dare he? That jerk!

“I’m just trying to be chivalrous.” Pierce grumbled, obviously intending for us to hear him. “Shark it is.”

“Yes! We have to go under the pier to change, and then we need to be underwater so the humans around here can’t see us.” I commanded. Brooke and Pierce both nodded and we looked to see if anyone was looking before running to the abandoned pier.

After we got to the pier we waded into the water beneath it, until we were up to our chests in the water. I looked over at Pierce and Brooke right beside me and nodded. “Ok guys. After we go under we can’t come back up. Let’s go before anyone see’s us. They both nodded and we dove under. I quickly concentrated on turning my legs into a tail.

After everyone had transformed themselves, we swam closer to the shark, making sure we were entirely submerged by getting close to the bottom. Soon enough, we could see the shark under the water. We merpeople have great eyesight, especially underwater. Instead of everything being cloudy like it is sometimes for humans, it made everything even clearer for us. It was like the water just connected with our eyes to make us see farther and better.
