Chapter 18

When Tyson and I arrived downstairs, Brooke and Pierce already had breakfast ready and were sitting down to eat.  Breakfast was almost like a buffet; there were all kinds of foods, and all that Tyson and I had to do was choose and load our plates full.  Considering that both Brooke and Pierce had just learned to cook, I almost would have been impressed if I weren’t so angry with them.  I repeat, almost.

Tyson and I both got our food and sat down wordlessly, neither of us looking at either Brooke or Pierce.  Brooke and Pierce, on the other hand, were looking right at us with wide grins on their faces.

“So, how was the royal couple’s night?”  Brooke said with a large smile, trying desperately not to laugh, I could tell.

“Fine,” I answered simply, knowing that my indifference would annoy her to no end.  And I was right; with my answer Brooke’s smile dropped, and instead she frowned.

Pierce, probably knowing that either Brooke or I would do something stupid if he didn’t intervene, loudly sat his cup down onto the table so that we all turned to look at him.  “Do you want to know what we’re doing after breakfast?” he asked, looking at Tyson and I.

“Of course,” Tyson said quickly, knowing better than to give Brooke and I a gap in conversation at that moment.

“We’re going to walk around the streets near the ocean and go shopping,” Pierce said, not looking exceptionally thrilled about it.

“Shopping?”  I asked, and Brooke nodded happily.

“It was my idea.”

“It’s a great idea,” I told her, and she was completely forgiven right then and there.

“I thought that you weren’t a girly princess.  Why would you want to go shopping?” Tyson asked me with a frown, waving a forkful of pancakes at me.

I pushed his fork away from my face with a fork of my own with a slight laugh.  “I’m still a girl Tyson.  I can like to buy things without buying a lot of girly things.  Besides, I’ve got this,” I said with a sneaky grin, holding up a little gold card.

“What is it?” Pierce asked.  Tyson looked just as confused as Pierce, while Brooke just grinned at me knowingly.

“That, my friends, is my fathers’ practically unlimited credit card.  He handed it to me before we left.  As you might know my family has our own wealth of human money that is separate from that of the kingdom.  This shopping trip also wouldn’t take anything out of our own checkbooks.  So we’re really hurting no one by using it,” I said with a grin.  Pierce laughed loudly while Tyson just chuckled.

“That doesn’t really surprise me.  But do we have to go shopping?” he asked, and Brooke and I nodded our heads quickly.

“Sorry man, but we’re outnumbered,” Pierce said with a light laugh.

“No we’re not!  There are two of them and there are two of us.  We’re tied,” Tyson said, looking slightly annoyed.

“Yes, but one of them is Brooke, and the other is Marina.  We’re both basically engaged to one or the other, and we both know that they’re the ones in charge,” Pierce told him with a pat on the back.

“But,” Tyson started, and then looked at me. “Never mind.”

“Exactly.  Now, are you guys ready to leave?  It’s getting close to noon, so all the shops should be about open by now,” Pierce said while looking at Tyson and I.  Tyson then looked to me of course.

“Yeah, I guess so,” I said with a nod.

Within the next couple of minutes, we were all outside and had each gotten in our respective cars.  Pierce and Brooke were in one, and Tyson and I were in the other.  Tyson seemed happy to be getting out of the house, but he was much more mellow about it than I was.  Sure, I was happy to go shopping, but the prospect of getting out of that house was much more desirable than a new pair of shoes.  Not that I wouldn’t enjoy a new pair of shoes too, of course.
