Wild People [OLD VERSION]

Part 6

We were sitting with the faces just shining with surprise.

'Wait, wait are you saying that there are people living deep in the mountains?' Lucy asked and the girl named "Mere" just nod.

'But I haven't seen the cables go there' I frowned and Mere just signed.
'They don't have an electricity. They are living like uhh.... cavemen?' She said and I whistled.
'How are they surviving?' Lucy asked and I just roled my eyes.
'How did our ancestors survived?' I asked her and she just frowned.

'Anyway, just don't cross the river. The only people who can meet them are the merchants who knows them good enough, so it's best to just forget them' Mere said and we just nod. This island was really weird.

'By the way my name is Meredith' the girl said and we smiled.
'Rose' I said and Lucy introduced as well.
'If you agree to split the household chores then you can live with me as long as you like' Meredith said and we nod. This place was probably the only place where we were welcomed.

'Good. You must be tired. After the diner I will show you your room. It's not uncomfortable for you two to share one room is it?' She asked and I just laughed.
'We are best friends, of course not' I said and Meredith smiled.

After we ate our diner Meredith showed us our room. It was small with two beds and one wardrobe. We four were sharing one bathroom so it wasn't the most glorious house in the world but it was better than nothing.

'I want to meet those people' Lucy said when we were in our beds.
'Are you stupid?' I asked her surprised.
'No, I'm just interested in how they are living there' she said and I signed.
'You know that no one knows what happened to those people who were taken. They could have been tortured to death for all we know' I said and shudered. That captain may have brought us to almost undiscovered island but those unknown people are really worring me. Just because both sides have their own territory, that doesn't mean they could not cross it and attack us.

I shooted those kind of thoughts away and went to sleep.

In the morning we were eating and discussing our chores.
'I like cooking so I will make food for us' Meredith said.
'I would like to work on getting them. Like helping hunters and go gathering berries and other things' I said and Meredith nod.
'I will introduce you to our hunters later' she said and we turned to Lucy.
'I will clean I guess, I don't have interest in any of those kind of thing' Lucy said and Meredith clapped her hands.

'Okay, then I will go introduce Rose to hunters. You can start cleaning anytime you want. Oh can you look after Roy at the same time?' Meredith asked putting her shoes on.
'Sure' Lucy said and we went out.

We walked through the whole village and went to some wooden shacks. Inside I saw animals buchered and cut open. It was the place where all meat was getting ready for others.

When we walked in I saw five men butchering and skinning dead animals. They all turned to us.

'Guys, this is Rose, newcomer. She would like to learn everything about the hunting and butchering' Meredith introduced me and I greeted them. They looked like nice bunch. One of them rose up and walked to me.

'Name is Sky. Why do you want to learn hunting skill?' He asked seriously. I saw Meredith leaving so I was on my own.
'My father was a hunter so I would like to continue his job since he can't do it anymore' I said and Sky nod.
'You want to learn his craft. That's good' he smiled and I returned it. Then he took me to other men and I started my work.

The day had left about two hours of daylight when we were done. I learned that all men had different jobs. Now I learned the basics of shooting, butchering, skinning and making bow and arrow. I was exhausted.

When I came home I saw our house sparkling. Lucy did a good job.
'How was your day?' Lucy asked appearing from upstairs with clothes and towels in her hand.
'Bloody' I replied and she just smirked.
'Do you want to join me to the springs?' She asked and my eyes lit up.
'Yessss' I replied with snake end and she laughed.
'Good because we need it' she said and we left the house.

'How do you know the way?' I asked when Lucy took me through the forest. It was quiet and really nice.
'Meredith showed me when you were busy' she replied and I nod.

Soon we saw a river and I stopped. It was the same river that Meredith talked about. Lucy stopped too.
'Just this string of water is keeping us from them' she said and I nod. I could see the mountains from here clearly and I felt goosebumps run down my spine.

Then I saw someone move in the bushes across the river. I tried to look closely but it was dark from the shades.
'Are you comming?!' Lucy shouted from far away and I looked at her.
'Yes!' I replied and took one last look back and ran to her.
