I looked down at my feet as I stood outside my parents house. I smiled at the thought of remembering Alexis has a habit of doing that when she's nervous or didn't know what to say. Or she would scratch her arm.

I cleared my throat and rang the doorbell. Hoping that no one would answer the door.

" just a sec." My mother yelled.

A few minutes later she opened the door.

" your home ear-" she paused when she saw me.

Her eyes looked at if they sparkled.

" Danny?" She said closing her eyes tightly together and opening them again.

" is it really you?" She asked touching my face. Her eyes watering.

I smiled feeling a bit emotional I wasn't going to cry though.

She pulled me into a hug... A long tight hug it was as if she wasn't going to let go.

" are you coming back home?" She asked. Stepping aside to let me in.

My shirt was now covered in flour. I looked at my mother's apron.

" what you cooking?" I asked

" chicken, mash potatoes, and corn.... Your father will be home soon, you should join us its a good thing you came when you did." She smiled and patted my cheek.

I followed her into the kitchen.

" oh... Danny I just can't believe your here I thought you would never come back your so stubborn sometimes... After all this time, what made you come back?" She asked. Placing a hand on her hip smiling up at me.

I smiled even more just thinking about who made me come.

"A friend of mine" I told her.

She frowned and looked kind of disappointed.

" and who is this girl?" She questioned.

A raise a eyebrow. " how do you know its a girl?" I asked.

" cause I know my son I'm sure no boys having you smiling like that" she paused and raised an eyebrow.
"Are they?" She questioned.

I blinked my eyes several times at her. Taken back by the fact that she thinks I could be gay.

" no ma" I said shaking my head.

She laughed. " I'm disappointed in you Danny, I was hoping that you could find your way home by yourself." She paused. " but I'm happy you did find your way home your stubborn like your dad... But you got to let me meet this girl if she convinced you to come."

" I was planning on bringing her today but she wanted me to talk to y'all alone."

She nodded. " stop calling us y'all we're your parents." She smiles putting the cut up potatoes in the pot.
" where's dad." I asked.

" he's at work he should be getting off soon... He'll be so happy and relieved to see you."

" relieved."

" we heard a lot about you while you were away."

" like what?" I asked curious.

" one day I was in the grocery and I over heard somebody saying you were involved in a murder. And I know there isn't that many Danny's in new York."

I looked at her not knowing what to say.

" is it true."

" no ma... It ain't true."
