My mom and I disappeared for five years her changing her name and me being homeschooled. I haven't heard or seen my dad in 5 years. My mom and I were now living with my mom's sister... They didn't quite get along but they were always there for each other.

It is now summer which means my birthday is coming up the month of August but I had a good while.

I was on the couch watching TV in my aunts living room when my mom came in.

" your birthday's coming up soon what do you want." She asked.

I shrugged my shoulders still having my eyes glued to the TV birthdays to me weren't... That big of a deal to me it was just my age going up by one which I would be turning 17.

" there's got to be something you want." She went on.

" no I don't want anything I don't want to even celebrate my birthday." I told her.

She sat there for a minute in silence

" baby girl we're gonna be doing something different this year." She said.

"Like what." I asked her.

" public schools..."

As soon as she said that my eyes immediately rested on her to see if she was serious.

" what! Why.. " I asked.

" because..." She said as if she was thinking.

" because what."

" because you need to get out the house more you need to go and explore the world and I hate to say this but you can't be my shadow forever." She said and I immediately knew why she said that.

" Raymond told you to put me in a public school." I asked her.

"This has nothing to do with Raymond so don't try to flip it around okay." She defended him.

" yes it does you just won't admit it I've been homeschooled for the past five years now and we're going to be moving with him soon you want me out of the house... Makes a lot of sense." I said. And I knew that was why.... she always take his side always do what he says. If he called her right now she'd go running like a dog.

But I guess I'm happy for her at least he doesn't abuse her but I like to think he uses her.

" look Alexis you have no friends haven't had not one boyfriend and you stay In the house most of the time besides going with me to do hair at the shop you are going to a public school and that's it." She said semi yelling.

It hurt me to hear those words come out my own mothers mouth. I glanced at her holding back my tears before I got up and headed for my room.

" Lexi." My mom called after me.
I slammed my door shut.

Yes... Raymond bought my mother a Salon he bought me most of the clothes that I had which were just like tiaras' it was just a suck up to my mom. Id help my mom at the shop whenever she needed it since I didn't have anything else to do besides school work I found my "gift" in hair. But I would be nervous to do some folks hair because I felt that they thought I was tol stupid or was going to mess up their hair or too ugly to do their hair.

In a few weeks we were moving in with Raymond and his daughter who I can't stand. I met her before and from the looks of it she didn't like me either. She is so stuck up every five minutes she would be in the mirror applying a thick layer of hot pink lipstick. Or on the phone with her best friend or boy friend...
