Charlie, Allie, Mason, Tyler, two other guys, and myself sat in the office. The guys were all discussing what should happen with what Nico said, and Allie and I were sitting silently on a couch against a far wall.
From what I could understand, Nico was a drug dealer from some gang a few towns away, and he wasn't one to go back on his word. When he came to the house earlier, it was a direct threat to Charlie from some dispute or something that had happened a while back.
I obviously knew from the matching patches that all these guys were in a gang, but they didn't seem like they would harm anyone.
Auden, you don't know these people. You don't know what they're capable of.
"We have to end this now," one of the guys I didn't know stated.
Charlie played with a pen on his desk while he looked from man to man, then at Allie, "You're right. We do. Get all the guys together, and lets take care of this now."
As soon as he finished the last sentence, all of the men stood up and began to walk out except for Charlie, who walked over to us.
"Allie, you and Auden go stay with Carolynn until we get back. I'll make sure someone is there with you, okay?"
We both nodded in response and watched as he walked out of the room.
"Ready?" she sighed as she looked at me.
You could tell by the look in her eyes, Allie had been getting close to her limit in dealing with whatever it is that the men around here generally do. I understood that it must be exhausting, though, especially if things were constantly like this.
I chewed on my lip and muttered, "Yeah."
I have no idea who Carolynn is.
We walked outside and toward Allie's car, when Mason ran up to us.
"Hey, uh, Al," he started. "Can you give us a minute?"
She looked from him to me, then just continued walking.
"Are you okay?" he asked immediately.
I looked up at him, "Yeah, I'm fine. Just confused for the most part."
"Well at least you're going to be safe. Tyler's going to stay with you guys at my moms, and Charlie was debating on sending someone else too. As soon as we get done, I'll be at the house though."
He smiled at me.
Next thing I knew he was wrapping his arms around me and pulling me into a soft, caring kiss.
I was starting to wonder what he thought we were, and how long he thought I'd be here.
As soon as he released his arms, he walked back toward Charlie and the rest of the men while I continued to climb into the car with Allie.
The moment my door shut, she took off, leading us out into the country, around uncountable twists and turns until finally we found a small, hidden drive among a heavily wooded area. We followed the long, gravel drive until finally a large, brick house made itself visible.
No wonder Charlie sent us out here. This place would be nearly impossible for any stranger to find.
