I couldn't be more thankful for Allie making me an appointment. There was no way I was figuring out how to do all of this shit on my own.

It's been a week since I found out, and it still hasn't set in. At least I'm not completely running around like a chicken with my head cut off.

Mason: Don't forget about the appointment. I'll pick you up at 3😘

I smiled as I read the text, walking into the microscopic library.

"Oh, God. I'm sorry," I pleaded as I bumped into someone.

I looked up and saw a tall, slender woman in her mid-twenties with curly red hair similar to the character from Brave, except with the most serious case of resting bitch face I've ever seen.

She looked at me with cat-like green eyes that were traced in eyeliner, "You're fine. You wouldn't happen to be Auden, would you?"

"Uh, do I know you?"

"Oh, excuse me, I must have left my manners at home. I'm Roxanna. We haven't met, but it's not every day a new person comes around here. Hell, I just got back not too long ago and I've already heard a lot about you. You're dating Mason, right?"

"Yeah, I guess..."

"You should come get some coffee with me! I've known Mason for years, and I'd love to get to know you too."

I looked behind her at the rows of books, but I knew she wasn't going to take no for an answer. Reluctantly, I nodded and we walked across the street to the diner.

"So tell me, how did you two lovebirds meet."

"I stopped here for a few days to rest on my trip that had no true destination, and he and I just sort of got along, I guess."

"Well that's not what I heard," a sly smile crept across her face.

"W-What did you hear?"

"I heard that you came to stay here and you two hooked up and now you're having a baby. I mean, you can definitely tell that you've got a little bit of a stomach."

My face was burning, "I really should go. I have a busy afternoon..."

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to offend you! Please stay a little longer."

I was scared to say no, so I ended up having a conversation with her for a while longer about things I couldn't even remember. After my attempt to leave, things were a lot less awkward/invasive. She actually seemed sort of sweet.

In the end, she gave me her phone number and we agreed to meet for lunch later on in the week.

When I got back to the house Allie had made lunch, so I quickly ate and did dishes before Mason arrived.

I am so not ready for this, I thought as I saw him pull in the driveway. If only he could pull out too...

"Excited?" He asked when we got close to each other.

I chewed on my lip, "Terrified."

He kissed my cheek, "It'll be fine, but we probably should try to avoid being late."

As if it mattered. I spent the first twenty minutes we were there filling out paperwork and giving them things to copy, and the next half hour was spent waiting on my name to be called in a very dull room with a plethora of toddlers, babies, and pregnant women.

Finally we got to a room and continued to wait for the doctor to come.

"Hello, Ms Bryer. I'm Doctor Elise Stanton, it's a pleasure to meet you," a woman in her mid forties with a dirty blonde pixie cut greeted.

I gave my most convincing fake smile as I shook her hand.

At this point I just wanted to get the hell out of here.

She did what I assumed to be all of the basic first appointment requirements, including a piss test to see exactly how far along I was, in case we were confused on the dates and an ultrasound was too early.

She scheduled the next few appointments for us, the first being merely a week later for the first ultrasound. I was sort of excited.

Mason couldn't stay after the appointment since he had to leave work early, so I sat at home with Allie.

We were sitting in the living room watching Law and Order when she paused it and looked straight into my soul.

"You haven't told your family yet, have you?" She asked suddenly.

I shook my head, somewhat concerned about what was going on.

"You need to."

"I'm sure they don't care enough to be bothered."

She shook her head, "Auden, it's a big deal. The reason my daughter isn't here is because she was afraid to tell us. I've got a seven year old grandchild I've never even seen. Maybe more. Poor Charlie has been looking for Grace and the baby since she left. Not knowing that kind of thing can destroy a parent."

"You and Charlie are way more caring of people than my family."

"They would want to know, sweetheart. I'm not telling you to go back there. I'm asking you to just be up front so in the future there isn't a trust problem that prevents them from being able to talk to you and you don't have to be concerned about what they think when you show up at home with a child."

I stayed silent.

"At least think about it."

I nodded.

If only she knew how hard I had been thinking about just that.
