Twenty-two

Alex pov
Katie and I are going to surprise grace. I know she is going to be stressed about the audition. But she doesn't know that I also got an audition.

I'm nervous no else know but Kat. She's been helping me practice for the audition. We are in the plane right now.

Katie's phone lights up. Grace texted her. I pulled out my phone and headphones. I put my music and blocked out the rest of the world.

Our plane finally landed and we were waiting for Riley's parents to pick us up since they knew up about us surprise her. I see Riley's brown wavy hair. She walks over to us and grab our arms and pulls towards her parent and maya. We walk out of the airport and towards grace's apartment.

We get her apartment and I see a guy that I haven't see before. He's wearing blazer with a t-shirt underneath. He has beard and little quiff. Mr. Matthews walks up to him and gives him a hug and so does everyone else but me and Katie.

"Um I don't mean to be rude but who are you?" I say asking the guy.

"I'm Shawn. Shawn hunter and you are?" He ask. "I'm Alex and this is Katie my best friend." I tell him.

I remember grace telling her dads name. Shawn H. So I'm guessing that's her dad. I don't t understand how you can leave your own daughter and her mother for years and then want to be back in her life. After all the heartbreaks and everything else he just tries to waltz back into her life like nothing happened.

We all walk upstairs and ring grace's doorbell. Before she can answer the door we all hide. She opens the door and jump and say "SUPRISE!!!" She look so happy.

"What are guy doing here?" She ask me and Katie. "Well wanted to surprise you after the audition." I say before Katie can say that I got an audition.

I know it's wrong that I'm lying to her but some of the people that audition get really competitive and I don't want that to happen to us.

"Well come on in guys. My mom is at work right now but she coming home soon I think." Grace says while opening wide open for us to come in. Katie looks at me with a confused look. "Just go with it ok?" I whisper to Katie. She nods her head and walk inside.

Grace sees Shawn behind us. She gets tensed up but I walk over to her and give her hug. She relaxes after five her a hug.

"We should really get going. Right Cory?" Mrs. Matthews say while looking at Mr. Matthews. "Oh yea right well Riley just call is when you want to come home ok and goes for you maya and don't get into any trouble. We love you Riley. Bye" Mr. Matthew says while they both walk out. Grace puts her head down indicating that she sad. I go over to and hug again.

Every time she says a family like the Matthews she gets sad because she never really had that. Her mother used to have boyfriends but they would abuse her. One guy tried to rape her but I saved her from that horrible man.

I remember what it was like for her. She wouldn't talk to anyone. She didn't let anyone touch her. She was in her room all the time. She had to go see a therapist and rarely talked to anyone.

I remember seeing the hurt and betrayal in her eyes each day. It hurt me to see her like that everyday.

I try to distract her from that by putting a movie that she loves. We all sit down and watch the movie. I cuddle up with grace on the couch. Riley and maya were sitting on the couch with us along with Katie. Shawn sits at the island in the kitchen I guess he waiting for her mom.
