I was just walking along the pavement, trying to get back to my flat in town. I never actually knew how far away my flat was. I guess it's the price I pay for missing the bus. The rain was falling harder than usually, making the London sky pitch black, even if it was just five in the afternoon. I'm used to the rain London brought, since I used to live two hours away in the small town of Wolverhampton.
My gray jumper and denim jeans were clinging to my body, making a cold chill run throughout my body. The rain was sinking into my favorite black Chucks, nipping my toes with a sharp chill. This was probably the worst idea I could ever think of. I should've called somebody to come pick me up. I should've just stayed in the bus station and waited for the next one. Bad decision on my part.
As I maneuvered my way through the crowds of people returning home to their families, I thought of the warmth that would greet me when I arrived back home. I could almost feel, even though I was miles away. I ran my fingers through my short brunette hair, before flipping the hood of my jumper on top of my head. Not only was it raining, but it was bitter cold as well. This just isn't my day.
I thought my life was normal. I mean, I'm your average twenty year-old. I go to UNI, I have friends, I have a crappy job. See? Normal.
About an hour away from my flat, I get a phone call from my best mate, Niall, asking me where I was. You see, Niall and I share a flat together. We split the bills and get by just fine.
"I'm like, an hour away. Why?" I asked the Irish lad on the other end.
"Did you miss the bus again?" He asked.
"Maybe." I replied, dragging it out. I might or might not have missed the bus once or twice before this.
As Niall rambled on about pointless things, I saw a shadow in the corner of my eye. I turned and saw a dark alleyway, with a small amount of light shining. My curiosity got to me, as I found myself walking into the alleyway. I was caution, because you never know who is lurking in dark alleyways. As I got closer to the shadow, I noticed there was more than one shadow I was seeing. I then heard whimpering come from those shadows. I took a deep breath, before slowly I looked behind the metal trash bin the shadows were coming from.
"Liam, are you even listening to me?" Niall yelled loud enough to scare the shadows. The shadows jumped, before merging together to become one big shadow.
"Ni, I'm gonna have to call you back."
"Why? Am I not important anymore?" Just as I went to reply, I gasped.
Behind the metal trash bin, there were two shivering teenage girls. They were frightened and freezing. Their clothes had ripes and tears in them and their hair was long and knotty.
"Oh my God." Was all I could say. I bent down to their level and watched as they huddled up closer to the trash bin. Then, on the top of both of their heads, were things I've never seen on another human being.
Pointy cat ears.
