You were sick. No, not the type of sick like a cold, nor the type of sick like you're mentally insane. You were sick as in that you have to stay in the hospital for weeks on end. Last week was supposed to be your last week on earth, but you surpassed that. In turn of surpassing your death date, you had to stay in the hospital. Each day you felt yourself get weaker and each day you hoped you'd die in your sleep. But each day that passed you kept on fighting, for what reason you don't know. You knew that in the end you'd just die, so why do you keep fighting?
The Karasuno volleyball team came to visit you today, and that made you the slightest bit happy. Really, it mostly saddened you, for today you could feel that you were going to die. You didn't want to die in front of them, that would just be... Depressing.
You were laying on the hospital bed, slightly propped up and staring at the ceiling. The ceiling was whitish-beige, sort of like canvas. On the ceiling, you imagined creatures dancing about and serene scenery. Suddenly, two shouting voices called your name and snapped you out of your imagination.
"(Y/n)!!!!!!!!!!!"
Suddenly, two boy-Lolitas popped up on both sides of the bed, each with flowers in their hands.
"Ni-Nishinoya! H-Hinata!" you exclaimed, surprised.
"We got you flowers!" they shouted in unison, shoving the flowers closer to your face.
"Thanks..." you said, sneezing in the process.
You took the flowers and set them to the side. Once the flowers were out of the way, you saw the rest of the team. Everyone looked really concerned except for Tsukki because he's that way. Suga was really fidgety, since he's so much like a mother. The atmosphere was getting tenser by the minute and beginning to feel awkward. You just gave them a smile.
"Hey guys..." was all you could say.
"Hey..." they replied.
"That did not help..." you thought disdainfully, "Maybe I should ask them something."
"So... How's it like for you guys?"
"Well," Yamaguchi started, "I'm getting better at float serves."
"Hinata's a dumba** as usual." said Kageyama.
You giggled.
"Hey!" yelled Hinata, "You wanna start somethin'?!"
"Try me." challenged Kageyama.
Just when Kageyama was about to throw a punch, Daichi stopped him.
"Not now guys, not in the hospital. You can fight later." said Daichi.
You giggled again, "Dad to the rescue..." you muttered.
Nishinoya heard you and began to giggle with you.
"Suga, make sure they don't fight." commanded Daichi.
You leaned and whispered to Nishinoya, "Oooo~! They're in big trouble~!" you said childishly, "Poppa Crow is bringing Mommy Crow in to watch over the idiot crows~!"
You and Nishinoya burst out laughing. Everyone turned to you two and looked at you guys as if you were crazy.
Tanaka walked over to Nishinoya, "What'd she say?"
Nishinoya caught his breath after laughing so hard and whispered to Tanaka what you just said. Once he finished whispering it, Tanaka began to laugh hysterically. Everyone else began to feel confused and a little creeped out.
"So, what did she say?" asked Yamaguchi.
Tanaka caught his breath and tried his best to mimic you, "She said, *giggle* 'Oooo~! They're in big trouble~! Poppa Crow is bringing Mommy Crow in to watch over the idiot crows~!'"
You laughed even harder hearing Tanaka trying to mimic your voice. Soon enough everyone else in the room except for Daichi, Suga, Hinata, and Kageyama were laughing. After the laughing ceased, a conversation began, just like how it was before, before you were sick. The conversation was just random chatter, happy things, and current events. Every now and then someone would crack a joke and you would all laugh.Time passed and you looked out the window. The sun was beginning to set.
"Man, why couldn't it just be like before?" you lamented, "Why did I have to be sick?"
The conversation from before died down and everyone was quiet. The quiet wasn't awkward like before, it was more peaceful and a little bit... sad. You decided to speak up.
"Hey guys?"
They looked at you in response.
"Is it okay if I could talk to Daichi for a bit?"
They all looked at each other in question, but they didn't ask. Soon enough, they all left to hang out in the hallway, and only Daichi was left.
"Hey Daichi."
He looked at you in response.
"Come over here."
He then walked over to your bedside.
"Y'know Daichi, I'm gonna miss these days..."
He looked at you with sadness in his eyes, you looked at him and gave him a gentle smile.
"Watch them for me, okay Daichi?" you requested.
He then nodded his head.
"Take my hand." (A/n PLEEEZE get this reference!)
You outstretched your hand and he grabbed it, holding it firmly, yet gently.
"It's always the hardest of times that makes us stronger, Daichi. Always, remember that."
Tears started coming out of his eyes and were rolling down his cheeks. You could see the tears glisten as they fall because of the sunlight. Seeing him cry made tears form in your eyes, and cry too. Your eyes were dazed and had a slight glow to them. Increasing your smile, you spoke again.
"I'm sorry I had to end it this way, but..."
"Did you know that I love you?"
And with that, you went limp. The dazed glow in your eyes disappeared, and the sun set. The heart monitor flat-lined.
"(Y/n)?" asked Daichi, shaking you slightly, "(Y/n)?! (Y/N)!!!"
Doctors then busted into the room and pushed Daichi away. Daichi ended up outside of the room and in the hallway, the team was on their feet, alert and frightened of what just happened. They all looked through the windows in the doors and saw the doctors trying to revive you. After a couple of minutes of trying, you still were motionless. Finally, they had put a white blanket over you.
Some of the members of the team began to cry, some of them were holding back tears, and Tsukki was trying his best to keep a straight face. Daichi then pushed himself away from everybody and ran to the top of the hospital. Once he got to the top, he stared out at where the sun set. The last bits of orange and pink tinted the sky, and the moon and stars began to take over the space. Tears were falling and cries of words could be heard.
"Aww. You silly goose!" said you.
Daichi felt a familiar warmness hug him.
"Don't worry, I'm always here for you..."
Daichi felt as if someone had kissed him on his forehead. Then the warmness began to melt away. Daichi tried his best to hold on to the warmness, but it slipped away... Away from his fingertips and into the night...
Cries of the volleyball captain was all that could be heard on the rooftop of the hospital that night...
