(B/n) = boy name
Flashback
You were a transfer student from America. Being in Japan is tough, especially since you are the black sheep of everyone. It's was hard there, in Nekoma High, no one really let you in to their circle of friends. One day though, you were passing by the gym. You decided to watch what was going on in there. The Nekoma team were practicing volleyball.
"Watch out!" yelled someone.
All of a sudden a volleyball came in and almost hit you in the face. Using your quick reflexes, you dodged the ball. You went after the ball and brought it back to the gym. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a tall silver haired teen was in front of you.
"Sorry! I'm so sorry!" he apologized.
You blinked, "O-oh, it's fine."
"LEV!" yelled one the teammates, "BE MORE CAREFUL!"
The teammate ran up to the silver haired boy who's 'Lev'. The teammate looked as if he was ready to beat the crap out of Lev, but, noticing that you were there, he restrained himself from doing so.
He turned to you, "Are you ok?"
"Y-yeah..." you stuttered. This was the most you talked to anyone here in school.
"You've got pretty good reflexes," said the boy, "Yaku Morisuke." He extended his hand out to you.
You shook his hand, "(y/n) (l/n)."
Yaku smiled at you and you smiled back.
Lev looked at the both of you and smiled. "Oooooo, I bet Yaku likes her..." he thought. He did not dare say that to him though. If he did he was sure to get a beating.
"Alright!" said Yaku, "Lev, lets get back to practice." He then turned to you, "You're welcome to watch, if you want." He and Lev began to walk away.
You smiled, "Wow, someone's actually being nice to me..." you thought. After thinking that, you followed them both into the gym.
End of Flashback
You smiled upon thinking of how you, Yaku, and Lev first met.
"Hey Yaku."
"Yeah?"
"Do you remember when we first met?"
"Yeah, you almost got hit with a ball by Lev."
You giggled, "Yeah..."
"And I didn't tell you this before, but when you were gone and practice was done, I beat the crap out of Lev."
"Yaku!" you said disapprovingly.
"What?" he protested, "He almost ruined your beautiful face."
You sighed and blushed, "Y'know Yaku, you remind me of someone."
"Really?" he asked, "Who?"
"Well," you began, "When I was in America, I had a friend who was in my class."
He nodded his head for you to continue.
"He was a hot-shot, a jerk, but nice and playful to those whom he cared for."
"I don't know if I should feel insulted or praised..." said Yaku.
You just giggled and continued, "He was short, like you."
"Yep. Insulted..."
You laughed, as soon as you stopped laughing, you continued to speak, "He was my best friend, we would always hang out and have a good time. Though, I did find times when he was acting like a jerk to people... Of course, I had to stop him."
"So, what happened? What was his name?" asked Yaku.
"Oh, his name? It was (b/n). One day we were horsing around. We were at the playground and he had a ball. The ball rolled out of his hands and he chased it. Eventually, it rolled onto the street and..." you drew in a breath. You voice was shaking and tears were brimming your eyes, threatening to fall, "I shouted for him to stop, but..." The tears were coming down now and showed no sign of stopping.
Yaku put his arm around your shoulder, "Go on..." he said softly.
"A truck came and ran him over. I ran to his body, knelt beside it and hugged him. I held him close and prayed that he wasn't dead. After a bit I heard him mutter my name. Immediately I looked him, I was crying hard and tears were forming in his eyes. He said, '(y/n), could you smile for me once more? I'd hate to die and the last thing I see is your crying face.' After saying that he coughed up some blood. It took my all just to smile, given the situation we were in, but, then again, it was for him. After I smiled at him, he smiled back. His final words shook me and haunt me to this day. He said, 'I'm lucky. It's better to die in your arms, than to die alone. Thank you (y/n). Thank you for the wonderful times we had together.' I looked at him and said, 'And we could have many more (b/n)! Just hang on please!' The light in his eyes were growing dimmer and dimmer. One last time he told me, 'Thank you.' After that his breathing stopped. I cried even harder and was shouting, '(b/n)! (B/N)! ANSWER ME PLEASE! (B/N)!' He was long gone and all I thought was, 'You can't be dead. Not yet. Please. Answer me. Please...' All I could do at that point was just cry on his shoulder while hugging him. That feeling was all too nostalgic. During 6th grade, I was subject to bullying, and, whenever I was down, he was there for me and we would be in that same position, me crying on his shoulder while hugging him and him hugging me back. Now that we were in that same position but his arms loose around me, it hurt. To hug him in the beginning and to hug him in the end, it was too much. And the fact that I couldn't do anything about it, hurt me even more. The only thing I could do, though, was be there for him in his final moments, to be there when he was dying."
"I'm so sorry..." said Yaku.
Your voice was still shaky, "Promise me something Yaku."
He nodded his head, signaling that he's listening.
You were basically breaking down at this point, "Promise me that you'll never leave me. Promise me that you'll always be there when I need you. And, as stupid as it sounds, promise me that you won't die, not when we're still young. Promise me this Yaku. Please."
Yaku understood that he would never understand what it's like to have one of your best friends die in front of you, especially when you were just a child. Also, he would never want you to go through something like that again. If simple promises could make you feel better and smiling again, then, of course, he would keep them. As long as you're smiling and happy, he'd be happy.
"Ok, (y/n), I promise."
