Chapter 22

Danny’s POV<

I was walking to the pack house, as my dad asked me, to go and check on Zaire. I also wanted to see how the two of them were doing, but I couldn’t bring myself too, cause it seemed like a bad time to do so. Since my dad asked me to, I had to do it.

I got to his door and I knocked on it gently, hoping that I wasn’t waking them up. Zaire answered the door with a small smile. “Well hello Danny, come on in,” Zaire moved out of the doorway so I could get in.

“Hi,” Timmy said with a big smile as he bounced on the bed.

“Hi, did I wake you?”

“Please, I have a six year old, I wish I could sleep in,” Zaire laughed loudly while his son stuck his tongue out at his dad. “I saw that mister.” Timothy giggled and pulled the comforter over himself.

“My dad asked me to come and check up on you two,” I said looking back at Zaire, who frowned.

“Is that the only reason you came?”

“…ya it was,” a small growl came from him.

“So you didn’t want to-”

“No I did! I just didn’t want to cause I thought that it wouldn’t be a good time, with just getting your son back and all,” Zaire nodded.

“I see,” I sighed to his words.

“I guess you want me to leave now?”

“Why would I?”

“Cause of what I’ve said,” he only shook his head and grabbed his son, who was still balled up in the comforter, and placed him in his lap. I stood there awkwardly.

“Well sit down,” I sat down on a chair. His son was squirming and growling playfully in the blankets. I could see Timmy’s form change from inside of the blanket. He crawled out from the blankets in his bear form and walked over to me, wagging his small tail, he hoped up onto my lap and placed his front paws onto my chest, starting to lick my face. “Ew, stop licking my face.” I grabbed him and picked him up, setting him back down in my lap, where I started to pet him.

“He seems to like you,” Zaire said laying down on the bed.

“Ya he does,” I smiled down at the cub in my lap.

>Kevin’s POV<

I missed my mate. I hadn’t seen him since he stormed out of my house the other day. Since he lived in the alpha’s house, I didn’t feel like going there to see him, to unnerving for me.

I was currently on patrol with a few other war wolves and our young beta, Arturo. Since the whole fright with that other pack coming onto are territory all the war wolves have been patrolling the borders 24/7, myself included. Which sucked, not being able to see my mate for a while and having to run for hours doesn’t go well together, whatsoever.

I’ll have to go and talk to Zach eventually, I’d go crazy if I didn’t, but how do I approach this? Obviously I have to be kind, it’s the alpha’s home! But more importantly, how will I approach Zach? He seemed pretty angry when I ordered him around, maybe I should be a little kinder to him.

At this point I was at a slow walk instead of the run I should be at, but I had to think.

The stress of not seeing my mate was getting to me, making my mind clouded, this non-stop work didn’t help either. That’s the only reason that he snuck up on me. A wolf, no where near my size, attacked my flank with his teeth.

I growled in annoyance as I tried to grab the little squirt. Giving up on that idea I simply rolled onto my side, the same side that he was on. He let out a help as I held him down with my mass. The wolf snapped and squirmed underneath me. Since he wasn’t hurting me and he wasn’t getting out anytime soon I started to think about my mate.

His cute size, he barely stood at my stomach. His purple eyes, I’ll admit that I’ve never really liked the colour purple, but it was definitely growing on me. His reddish-brown hair that was short cut. He is my adorable little fox.

I just couldn’t think of why he ran out that day, what happened?

A hard bite to my body brought me out of my reverie. The wolf had made it out, slightly, from under me and was biting me. I growled loudly at the wolf and stretched my neck back to grab a hold of him. I grabbed his snout and bit down as hard as I could. Some crunches told me that I was breaking something. The wolf yelped, letting go of me, and tried to get away from my hold.

Growing tired of this game, I got up quickly and grabbed his head in my jaws. Biting down as hard as I could, I heard the final crunch before he went limp in my hold. I tossed the body into some bushes where no one would see it. I growled to myself and started at a run to find Arturo. I knew he’d understand that I needed to talk to my mate.

With a growl of annoyance I started to just head towards the alpha’s home, I knew it was risky but I had to talk to Zach! As I got closer my courage waned a bit. What if the alpha got mad? I knew he was a nice guy, but I’ve never had to come to his front door before, unless it was from an order.

I gulped down my nervousness and changed into my human form. I went up to the front door and knocked gently. Alpha Franklin answered it with a confused face.

“Can I help you Kyle?” He asked looking up at me.

“Uh…I was wondering if Zach was here,” I could just imagine myself with one of those old hats, and holding it in my hands ringing it nervously. I was just glad that I didn’t wear hats.

“No sorry, his family went out to a movie early, I don’t know when they’ll be home,” I blushed a bit. Hoping that my tanned skin hid it from the alpha.

“Oh okay…thanks anyways alpha,” I said leaving.

“Wait, aren’t you supposed to be out on patrol?” I turned back to him and nodded. “Then why are you here?”

“To see if Zach was around,” I stated truthfully.

“No, I know that, what I meant by that was, why aren’t you on patrol? Who let you leave?”

“Um…no one sir, I tried to find Arturo but I couldn’t, so I grew tired of searching for him and just came here. I killed some wolf who attacked me in are territory though,” trying to sound as if I was doing something, and to maybe get him on my side.

“Kyle, you shouldn’t leave your post without telling someone,” Greg scolded lightly.

“I know, but I had to come and talk to Zach, I haven’t in a while,” I told him with a slight frown.

“Fine, I can tell that you haven’t had much rest, so go and sleep a bit, then you’re going back out,” he said in a ‘its final’ tone, so I just nodded, then shook my head.

“I can’t sleep, I’m to restless,” he smiled and shook his head.

“Then go and relax then,” I nodded ad left for my house, I was still determined to see my mate though, I didn’t care, I would then go back out on patrol.
