Chapter 23

>Lachlan’s POV<

I sat near my sleep mate, I found it cute how he’d always fall asleep right after sex. I rubbed his stomach a bit before getting up and putting my clothes back on. I was just happy that the house was empty other then the two of us.

Once my clothes were on I gave Arturo a kiss on the forehead, leaving to go down stairs to eat something.

With no news about Lycaon I felt safer, maybe he gave up. I brushed that thought aside, knowing that it wasn’t true. He wouldn’t give up, not after this many years. Not after all he’s put into killing me, he’ll have his victory, or he’ll die trying. I knew the latter would be my preferred one, but I also knew he wouldn’t stop.

Sitting down at the kitchen table I sighed deeply, something making me look outside. I almost jumped at the sight. A small red wolf was there, splashes of grey everywhere. A long scratch like wound ran down his side. He was breathing heavily. His green eyes were staring at me with fear in them. The little guy looked like a deer in the headlights.

I got up slowly with my hands raised, palms out, trying to make him not worry. I opened the sliding door slowly, trying not to spook him. “Its okay, I’m not going to hurt you,” I soothed while I stepped closer to the wolf. He changed into a small boy, he looked barely to be older then eight or so. The boy’s eyes rolled back and he started to fall. I jumped towards him and grabbed him, immediately checking for a pulse, feeling that there was a faint one I scooped him up in my arms and ran inside. I set him down on the kitchen table and pulled his shirt off to see how bad the wound was.

It looked like it was dealt a few hours ago, which meant that it should have healed by now. I ran upstairs into one of the bathrooms and grabbed a towel. Jumping down the flight of stairs, and nearly slamming into the wall, I got back to the little boy. I ran the water under the tap in kitchen and started to clean his wound.

Arturo came running down looking worried, he was still naked so he must have just woken up. “Are you okay? I heard a thump.”

I’m fine, he isn’t, go and get me a bandage,” I commanded still cleaning the kid’s wound. Arturo walked away quickly. “And put some clothes on!”

He came back down with some pants on and a bandage, he placed it on the table and started to look at the kid, sniffing quietly. “I don’t recognize him, or his smell,” my mate stated looking down at the boy.

“It really doesn’t matter right now, he’s lost a lot of blood and he isn’t healing,” I said, a bit worried. I kept checking his pulse just to make sure that he was still alive.

“I’m only saying,” Arturo said with annoyance in his tone.

“I know you are, but I’m just worried ab….” I stopped as soon as the smell hit my nose. “No…no no no no NO!” I recoiled away from the boy.

“What’s wrong?” Arturo asked going to hold me in his arms. I shoved him away. I just wanted to get out. “Lachlan! What’s wrong!?”

“I-it can’t b-be,” I stuttered out.

“Lachlan, please tell me what’s wrong,” I just shook my head. I knew it! I knew he wasn’t gone yet. “Was it him? Did Lycaon do this to the boy?” I nodded slowly, that wasn’t it, he was one of Lycaon’s kids. Why would he do this to him though? I had to find out.

“He is his son,” I said quietly.

“What!” Arturo turned and started to growl at the unconscious boy.

“B-but Lycaon hurt him, he caused the scratches, this doesn’t make sense!” I started to shake my head.

“It could be a trap.”
