“Kefira? Did you hear what Dr. Ashton said?” Dad said.
“Sorry, I zoned out.” I said. It was true. I was searching my brain for evidence of this...thing that kept speaking in my brain. But there wasn’t any trace of anything. Dr. Ashton had kept talking, and I probably just missed a whole lot of information that was probably important.
“That’s ok. I know it’s a lot to take in. I was just saying that you are going to be transferred to the Academia, which is Latin for academy. Once you are there we will perform some simple tests to determine the full extent of your Power. We have one of the greatest minds in the world working for us, and he will be able to tell us exactly what Power you have. How does that sound?” Dr. Ashton said.
I thought about it. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I remembered what I had been taught about Powers at school. Very little really. Mostly, what I remember is that you were taken away and trained to become a superhero. Would they train me? I asked Dr. Ashton.
“Of course, once we understand what kind of Power you have,” he replied.
“But, what about my current schooling? Where will I stay? Am I going to be able to see my parents while I’m there?” I rambled, all my thoughts exploding out my mouth without permission from my brain.
“All your questions will be answered soon. We will leave you to think about things while I talk to your parents about the whole arrangement.” And with that Dr. Ashton, Mum and Dad left the room, leaving me with my thoughts.

So, it was decided (without my input of course). Mum and Dad agreed that it was best that I travelled to the Academia. In fact, I would be leaving tomorrow. They wanted to know about this...ability I had. I wanted to know as well, but I would prefer that their expert came to me.
My parent arrived the next day with a very large suitcase that was full of clothes, bathroom items and other essentials that I would need. We said our tearful goodbyes.
“Goodbye honey,” Mum said through her tears. She wrapped me into a hug, and kissed my forehead.
“Goodbye Mum,” I replied, also crying. I couldn’t help it. Mum let me go and Dad pulled me into his signature bear hug.
“Goodbye Kefira.” It sounded as if the words choked him to say. It felt as though we were saying goodbye for good; like I’d never see them again. I pull out of Dad’s embrace.
“I love you both so much,” I say to them. I turn to face Dr. Ashton.
“I’m ready,” I said to him.
“Excellent. The helicopter just arrived, so we will depart immediately,” he said.
“Helicopter? We are taking a helicopter?” I said in amazement. I had never been on a plane, let alone a helicopter. I said one final goodbye to my parents and walked after Dr. Ashton.
He led me down several corridors and up the elevator. When we arrived on the roof, I saw the helicopter waiting, its blades still going. The wind from them was so strong, I was almost knocked over. Dr. Ashton ushered me into the helicopter, put my suitcase beside me and shut the door. Then he got into the front next to the pilot. The pilot fiddled with different switches and dial, and then we were in the air.
“How long will it take to get there Dr. Ashton?” I asked, trying not to sound like a whinny kid.
“About an hour or so. And please, call me Jason” He replies.
“Ok Dr. ... Jason”
The flight was amazing. I enjoyed looking out the window at the city as we passed over it. Everything looked small. The people looked like ants. While I was looking at the people going about their business, I was suddenly zoomed in, as if someone had zoomed in with a camera. I could see so much detail, as if were only a meter or two in the air. I sat up straight, and closed my eyes. This was weird.
Don’t fight it. This ability is part of. And so am I.
My eyes flew open. For fuck’s sake. I was getting sick of the cryptic voice in my head.
‘Who are you’ I said to my brain, feeling like an idiot.
‘You are not an idiot. You are confused as these new abilities appear. Don’t worry. I am here. I understand.’
‘Well I don’t! Who are you?’
The voice seemed to laugh. How is that even possible? ‘I think the question you should be asking is what am I?’
I was about to reply, but Jason interrupted my thoughts.
“Are you ok? You are really quite. Is there something I should know?” He asked. He sounded concerned.
“Um... now that you mention it...” I started, but the voice butted in.
‘You realise that he will think you are nuts. He won’t believe you,’ it said smugly.
“Nothing. It’s nothing.” I finish out loud.
Jason looked at me strangely, but let it slide.

The trip wasn’t as boring as I thought it would be. I enjoyed the flight, and looking at the amazing landscape as we flew over it. As I looked out the front window, and saw a cluster of buildings coming into view. It looked to be pretty big, as far as I could tell from the air.
“Jason, what is that building?” I asked.
“That is the Academia,” he answered.
The pilot took us in to land. We landed in a neatly mown circle close to the largest building. Now that I was on the ground, I could see that the closest building was made of old stone, with ivy growing up the side in certain corners. It was a beautiful building. There was a concrete path leading from the helicopter’s landing pad to a nearby entrance.
“Let me take you inside. We will begin your tests immediately,” Jason said.
“What about my stuff?”I said, looking back at the helicopter with my suitcase in it.
“Don’t worry. It will be delivered to your room. Follow me inside,” he said, and began to walk down the concrete pavement towards the building.
I sighed and followed.
