This is how I imagine Percy might have come home to his mother.

Sally Jackson closed her front door as quietly as she could. She walked to the living room and all but fell onto the couch.  The blinking time on the clock read 10:45. She had spent the night at a local park until it was too dark to continue writing.

She was miserable, and her sadness had only gotten worse when she had received the voicemail from Percy. He had said that he would come home, but that was months ago. Sally didn't know if she would ever see her baby boy again.

She also hadn't heard from Annabeth.

Annabeth had been the only one who really understood what Sally was going through. The two had grown close during the months after Percy disappeared. They cried together, searched together, and survived together.

The last thing Annabeth told her was that she had a lead, and she would call if she found anything.

Sally rested her head against the couch and fell asleep immediately.

She woke later in the night.

"Percy!" she exclaimed, jumping up.

"Hush," Paul tried to calm her," it's me."

Sally hugged her husband and started crying into his shoulder.

"I know," he held her tightly," come on, let's get you to bed."

He supported his weeping wife and started moving her towards their bed room. He stopped when he heard a knock at the door.

"Go," Sally told him.

She rested against the wall while Paul went to check the door. She heard the door open, but only silence followed.

"Paul?" she called worriedly.

"Sally," he answered," come here."

She quickly wiped her tears away and walked towards the door. She rounded the corner to be greeted by the sight of a frail black-haired green-eyed boy.

"Percy!" she shrieked.

"Mom!" he ran up and embraced his now smiling mother.

They held onto each other, and Sally felt her shoulder becoming wet.

She pulled away and looked her son in the eyes.

"My baby's home," she smiled.

"I'm home," he reassured her.

He reached up to brush a tear from her cheek. She caught a flash of black on his wrist. She grabbed his wrist to look at the strange marking on his wrist.

"You got a tattoo?" she asked disapprovingly.

"Um," he looked at her, his eyes full of guilt," it's more like a brand."

"A brand!!!" his mother shrieked.

He looked behind him to a blonde girl and mouthed the word help.

"Annabeth!" Sally said, noticing the girl.

Sally embraced her and dragged the young couple into the house. They sat on the couch, with Sally and the Paul on the coffee table.

"Are you two okay?" she asked studying the two to look for any sign of wounds.

"We'll be fine, Mrs. Blo-," Annabeth said, being interrupted by Sally.

"You will call my Sally," she said," or mom."

She winked at Annabeth. Percy and Annabeth blushed at the older woman's comment.

"We're fine, mom," Percy said, breaking the awkward silence.

"How long will you be staying?" Sally asked excitedly.

Paul placed a calming hand on his wife's back.

"A week," Annabeth answered.

"Then we're going to California to see Annabeth's family," Percy continued.

"Then we'll be back in New York," Annabeth finished," Paul, do you think you could get us a spot at Goode?"

"Of course," he smiled at her.

Percy took Annabeth's hand, and she rested her head against his shoulder.

"I'm so glad you are safe," Sally said, placing a hand on her son's knee.

Percy set his free hand on top of his mother's when he saw tears coming to her eyes.

"I'm so sorry, mom," Percy apologized.

He got up from the couch and knelt in front of Sally. He placed his forehead on her knee, and she began to comb through his hair with her fingers. She kissed her son's head when he started crying.

She saw Annabeth put a hand on Percy's back.

"It wasn't your fault," she told him.

Percy raised his head as Annabeth moved to the ground. She kissed his cheek and wiped the tears from his face.

Sally saw the brokenness in their eyes for the first time and wondered what had done that to her baby boy.

"Why don't you two go to bed?" Paul suggested," Annabeth, you can sleep in the guest room."

The two looked at each other, panicked.

"Um," Percy started," mom, would you mind if Annabeth stayed in my room?"

Sally saw the way they were around each other. They were always on edge, what ever had happened to Percy, had happened to Annabeth as well.

"I trust you, Percy," she told him.

She saw the relief rush to their eyes.

"Sally?" Paul began.

"Do you have any thing to sleep in, Annabeth?" Sally asked.

Annabeth motioned to her backpack.

"Then why don't you two go get some sleep," she told them.

The stood up and left the room.

"Are you sure, Sally?" Paul asked.

"Yes," she answered.

He leaned down and pressed a kiss to her lips.

"Come on," he told her.

She walked down the hallway, stopping at Percy's door. It was cracked open, and she nudged it so that she could see the couple lying on the bed. Percy had his arms wrapped protectively around Annabeth.

"Come on, Sally."
