Percy ran to the bathroom, trying his best not to throw up on the way there. He reached the toilet just in time and started retching. It felt like an eternity until he was finished. He struggled for breath, trying to ignore the smell coming up from the toilet.
He flushed the toilet and groaned, collapsing against the wall. He ran a hand through his tangled hair, not missing the heat coming from his forehead.
"Percy," his mom called.
She entered the bathroom and saw Percy on the floor.
"Are you okay," she asked, kneeling down next to him.
She rested a hand on his forehead.
"You're burning up," she told him.
She stood up and flushed the toilet. Then she left the bathroom, coming back a moment later with medicine.
"No," Percy groaned.
"Don't you want to feel better?" his mom asked, annoyed.
"Not if it requires me eating that," he said stubbornly.
"I have a meeting." Sally told him, glancing at her watch," I'll have to cancel."
"No," Percy stopped her. "Go to your meeting. I'll be fine."
"I'll make some soup before I go," she told him.
"I love you," he told her.
She pressed a loving kiss to her son's forehead.
Percy heard the sounds in the kitchen of his mother cooking, then the sound of a door closing. After that, there was only silence, other than Percy's occasional retching.
He sat on the bathroom floor for about an hour, until he heard a knock on the door. He stood up and stumbled to the door. He opened it to reveal Annabeth, dressed in a pretty green dress.
"Percy," she exclaimed when she saw her sick boyfriend, dressed only in pajama pants.
"Dang it," he mumbled," I'm sorry. I forgot to call you."
"Are you okay?" she asked, pushing her way into the apartment.
"No," was his weak response.
"Is that soup I smell?" she asked.
"My mom made some," he said," you should go, I don't want you to get sick."
"No way," Annabeth said, setting her purse on the couch," I'm not leaving until you feel better."
Percy smiled at his girlfriend, then made a dash for the bathroom. Annabeth followed and saw Percy hugging the toilet, throwing up. She sat behind him and began rubbing his back. She pressed her lips to his shoulder, feeling the warm skin.
"Did you take any medicine?" she asked.
He shook his head to answer her.
"Why not?" she inquired.
"It tastes weird," he told her.
"I'll be right back," she told him.
She stood up and left the room. She came back a moment later, no longer in her dress, but in one of Percy's swim jerseys and a pair of shorts that she kept at his house.
"Did you throw up anymore?" she asked, running a hand through his hair.
"No," he told her.
"Come on," she said, helping him off of the floor.
She led him to his room and helped him into the bed. She smiled when he fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. Annabeth pulled a blanket over his body. She turned to leave the room when his voice stopped her.
"Stay," he pleaded.
"Sure," she said, sitting in a chair.
"No," he said," here."
Annabeth sighed, rolling her eyes at her boyfriend. She stood up from the chair and pulled his sheet back so she could climb into the bed.
"If I get sick, you're taking care of me," she told him.
She snuggled into his chest, wrapping her arms around his waist.
She sighed happily when she felt Percy playing with her hair.
"I love you," she heard him whisper faintly in her ear.
"I love you, too," she said.
They fell asleep in each other's arms and didn't even wake when Sally entered the room.
She smiled at the sleeping couple, pulling the sheet up further. She pressed a kiss to Percy's forehead, then one on Annabeth's.
