"This will never work." I shook my head.
Prank calling Aaron is by far the worst idea we have for pranking him. Or Reese's idea. He thinks that Aaron will fall for it when we prank call him.
"Trust me it will work." Reese assured me.
"Look, I know Aaron. He won't fall for it. He's too smart for this."
Yet I agreed on prank calling Aaron.
That's because Reese and I made a bet. I will win when this prank fail and I can make Reese do a favor for me. Same goes to Reese if he wins but there's a slim chance of him being able to win.
Reese and I waited for Aaron to pick up the phone while I pluck the grass we are sitting on. Yeah, we are sitting in the middle of the field in lunch.
Why? Because it is scorching hot here so no one comes here, thus giving us peace and privacy to prank call Aaron.
"Hello?" Aaron answered.
Reese and I looked at phone before looking up at each other, slight panic in his eyes.
Maybe we weren't as prepared as we thought.
Reese handed me his phone. 'Answer it', Reese mouthed the words to me. I pushed the phone towards him.
"Hello? Anyone there?" Aaron spoke again.
"Answer the damn thing!" Reese half-whispered at me.
"I don't know what to say!" I half-whispered back.
"I'm hanging up." Aaron said.
"No wait." Reese said in a strangled voice.
"Who's this?"
"It's me, Simon."
"Simon? Which Simon?"
"Simon... uh, Cowell." I hold my laughter.
"Doesn't ring a bell."
"We met at the party two weeks ago."
"I don't remember."
"How can you not remember? We hooked up and remember what you told me? You said that was your best night ever!"
I took a deep breath to contain my laughter. Who would have thought that Reese could come out with a thing like that out of nowhere? Not even me.
"Uh... I think you got the wrong guy. I'm not gay."
"Nope. I'm pretty sure it's you. Yours is the smallest I've ever seen."
"What the hell man? Mine is huge! Do you know how many girls come back to me after each session? For the last time, I'm not gay!"
My stomach hurts so badly and I'm pretty sure my face is already red. How can Reese keep on a straight face? Reese looked at me and smirked.
"Tell that to our child when he's old enough."
"Our child?"
"Yeah... I just found out that I'm pregnant." Reese hang up.
I burst out laughing. I was laughing so hard that nothing came out. But my stomach hurts so badly that I'm lying on the grass while clutching my stomach. I probably look like some retarded person but my stomach hurts too much for me to care about my facial expression right now.
I couldn't stop laughing because Reese was laughing along with me too. It can be a good and a bad thing at the same time. For instance, I would have felt really awkward if he did not laugh along with me and when he did, it just makes me laugh harder. I just wanna stop.
Both of I finally sobered up, well, I'm still in that lightheaded moment where I can burst out laughing again.
"Simon Cowell? Really?" I said in between laughs.
Reese shrugged. "It worked."
"How did you do that? Coming out with random stuff like that?"
"It's my talent... I used to prank call people back in Seattle."
Yeah I completely forgot that he just came here and live with Max for unknown reasons. I'm curious, though. I've never been to Seattle before.
"How was life in Seattle?" I asked him.
His eyes lit up and he started telling me about his life there.
By the time he stopped the car in front of my house, I know a lot about him. Like his best friend is his partner in crime and both of them prank called a lot of people, which explains how Reese could spin out some ridiculous tale out of nowhere. I noticed that he hasn't mention anything about a girlfriend.
"Do you... um, have a girlfriend?" Wow it sounded less awkward in my head.
"Why? Jealous?" Reese smirked.
"Pfff no... just curious."
"Nope." He shook his head.
I playfully shove his arm. "C'mon, you must have one. I mean, you're hot."
"You think I'm hot?" Reese smirked at me.
Did I just admit that he's hot?
"Pfff no... I mean your body is warm." I placed my finger on his hand but it's the normal temperature.
Reese gave me an amused look. "Whatever you say, Tamara."
Then his expression grew serious as he looked down and fiddled with something between his hands.
"To answer your question, I used to have a girlfriend. Her name's Judith. She's great and all but we broke up a few days before I came here. Long distance." He added the last part after looking at me.
"But long distance do work, you just got to put in effort to the relationship."
"It does work but not all of them. Besides, it was a mutual decision and she has already moved on."
"What about you?"
"Well, there's this girl I like and I'm not sure if she's really interested in me."
My heart sink a little. I guess a part of me was hoping he said the girl is me. Now that he likes another girl, I have no chances of being with him.
I forced out something to say. "Have you asked her out?"
Reese shook his head. "I'm working on it... any ideas on how to ask her out?"
"Well, if you really like this girl then you gotta make sure that she can never turn down on the date."
"What?" I said when Reese was giving me a knowing grin.
"Nothing." I rolled my eyes and got out of the car.
"Hey Tamara?" I looked at him.
"Remember our deal earlier?" I nodded.
"See you tomorrow night at eight." He drove off, leaving me alone at the driveway.
