I Will Protect You

Chapter 12

Sonic's POV
"...and t-that's when Sh-Shadow rescued me." I finished up my story of how I became Sonic the Experiment and looked over to Rouge on the verge of tears. She leaned over and pulled me into a much more gentle but still very passionate embrace.

She gently patted my back and swayed us in a side-to-side motion as I began to sniffle and tear up myself at the thought of having to recall all of those painful memories.

I let a few tears fall onto her shoulder as she continued to try and comfort me, "Shh Shh its alright Big Blue go ahead and let it all out they won't do that terrible stuff to you anymore. I swear that Shadow and I will make sure protect and keep you safe and have you back to your old self in no time, OK?!"

I nodded my head as I pulled away from her embrace. She gave me a warm almkat motherly smile as she thumbed away my access tears and then stood up. She gently pushed me down to lay me gently down on the bed and covered me up with the black comforter that previously tried to devour my soul, or so I thought.

"All right Big Blue you get some rest, you deserve it I'll be downstairs if you need me OK?" I nodded my head a little as I snuggled into the soft mattress. She bent over and kissed me gently on the forehead and wiped away a stray tear from her cheek as she tiptoed out of the room.

Not long after she left I began to feel very tired. I wasn't scared go fall asleep though, as a matter of fact I think this is the most calm and at peace that I have felt in a long time. At that thought cuddled into the pillows and fell asleep with a very faint smirk on my face.

Rouge's POV

I leaned against the door to Shadow's room as soon as I had fully exited and closed the door. I layed my hand on my forehead as I sighed and blinked away tears. 'Wow after all this time he was alive... I can't believe it... I always thought that he ran away on an unexpected journey and decided to not return... or something along those lines any ways. But G.U.N Scientists making him some kind of experiment! Why that's horrible... It's inhumane... It's... It's... Ugh, I can't even find words to describe how terrible this is! That's how bad it is. I'm gonna have to have a long chat with my partner about this when he gets back...and speaking of partner I'm pretty sure he would not enjoy coming home and seeing a sandwich on his floor, better get on that. '

I went into the guest bathroom so I wouldn't have to disturb Sonic again and found some cleaning supplies and went downstairs and cleaned up the mess. 'Man I wonder if Shadow's day has been as nearly as eventful as mine?'

Shadow's POV

"Emergency! I repeat this is an emergency! All G.U.N officials please report to the laboratory!"

I hid behind a wall not far from the laboratory as i hung up the phone to the intercom. I watched generals, soldiers, lieutenants, and finally the commander himself walk into the laboratory room. I shut the double doors behind them and locked them on the outside using my key card that all G.U.N agents are required to have.

I was happy and relieved to see that part one of my plan was working out just fine, but now it was time for part two. I snuck off down the hallway as a loud, " What is the meaning of this disturbance!? " mostly likely coming from the commander, echoed from the lab. 'Oh you'll find out soon enough commander," I smirked slyly to myself as I made my way to his office.

Once I reached his door, I slowly opened it and poked my head in to give it a full inspection to make sure that it was completely deserted.

I nodded to myself in sort of a confirmation to myself that the room was absolutely empty, as I pushed the door opened wider so I could slip in then closed and locked it behind me. I then dashed over to the metal filing cabinet and thought hard to try and remember the combination to it. "Hmmm...let's give this a shot," I said as I punched in the combination into the keyboard.

The cabinet opened with a click and a hiss as it slid opened revealing a drawer filled to its maximum capacity with files of every letter of the alphabet.

"Let's see P...Q...R...ahh he we go S for So- wait a minute what is this?" I was sliding a much thicker file of Sonic's into my backpack when a familiar name caught my eye....mine.

I reached in the drawer and pulled it out holding it in my hands and giving it a curious inspection as I pondered if I should look inside or not ' Why would the commander have a file over me? Well a small peek won't hurt,' I said to myself as I began to reach into the file and pull out one of the papers.

As I was doing so I heard a noise that made my ears twitch. It was a familiar noise that I was not expecting to hear so soon....the sound of approaching footsteps.

I gasped as I dashed around the room shutting and locking filing cabinets, stuffing my backpack with important and top secret information, and erasing all evidence that I was even here.

The door handle began to jiggle as I was zipping up my backpack. I began to sweat as I panned around the room looking for a place to hide.

I was staring directly at the door as it opened and in walked a very agitated Commander Towers grumbling very inappropriate curses under his breath. Me on the other hand clung for dear life, similar to a ninja position, in the darkest corner of the ceiling in his office.

My arms and legs were spread out in the small corner holding me in place in the ceiling as the commander walked directly underneath me.

I held my breath as he stopped right under me and looked around his room making sure everything was the way he left it.

I began to get nervous when he bent down and picked up a piece of black cloth. I looked at my sleeve and noticed that during my attempt to hide, I had clipped my arm on his desk therefore causing a piece of my shirt to be tore off.

My breath hitched as a bead of sweat began to roll down my forehead and slid down all the way to my nose. I began to panic. If that drop fell it would land right on his neck therefore giving away my position and ending in me getting greatly punished or possibly even worse.

I shivered at the thought as I tried to blow the drop so it would land somewhere else but luck just wasn't on my side today I noticed, as the drop fell right on his neck just as I figured.

He brought his hand up to the back of his neck and examined the strange wet substance. He was about to look up to identify the source of the drop when a knock on his door sounded.

I sighed in relief as he walked over and opened it. "Commander your needed in the conference room," a soldier said as the commander nodded his head following the soldier out of his office, but not before letting one last suspicious glance over his shoulder. He shrugged his shoulders then left the room.

I let out a very deep sigh of relief as I jumped down from my hiding spot and adjusted my backpack, " Well that's enough excitement for one day, time to go home! " I breathed out as I snuck out of the office and away from the G.U.N facility.
