I Will Protect You

Chapter 9

Rouge's POV 
I arrived at Shadow's place as quick as I could, just like he  wanted. I was a little worn out from the strain I put on my wings due to speeds of which I was flying but I know it will be worth it if Shadow needed my help. This was a very rare occasion, considering the little known fact that Shadow never asks anyone for help, so I practically ran up to his door once my feet touched on the ground.

I smoothed out my wind blown fur and straightened up my outfit while I waited for Shadow to open his door. I crossed my arms over my chest and began tapping my foot, impatiently waiting for him to answer the door. " Ugh for someone who was in such a hurry for me to get here he sure is taking his sweet precious time to answer the door!" I groaned as I was getting ready to knock on the door again.

My knuckles was just about to hit the wooden door when a slightly panting Shadow finally opened it, "Well its about time I've been  waiting out here for ages and it's quite humid!" I whined as Shadow rolled his eyes and moved to side as he gestured for me to enter his home.

"So Hun whats the emergency that required me to show up on such short notice?" I asked as I made myself at home on his couch. " Look Rouge I'm in a bit of a hurry, just do me favor and make yourself at home,wait actually scratch that first bit, just keep a very watchful eye on things, and stay away from my room and I promise I will explain everything when I return."

He then picked up a black backpack and flung it over his shoulder and bolted out his door. Before he fully disappeared out it though, he turned his head around and gave me one of his i'm-serious-if-you-don't-listen-to-me-there-will-be-serious-consequences- faces and then told me, well wait more like ordered me would be more like it, once again to stay away from his room.

Before I even had a chance to ask why though, I was silenced by the slam of his front door and the hiss of his hover skates. " Ugh men!" I groaned as I rolled my eyes and made my way over to his kitchen to make myself something to eat for my troubles.

Shadow's POV
My hover skates hissed in my ear as I  blazed down the sidewalk at top speed heading straight  for GUN. I was a bit behind schedule and therefore in a slight bit of a hurry as I dodged pedestrians and leaped over trashcans and mailboxes.

" Ugh if that pill would have worked for just a bit longer therefore allowing me to leave without any issues from a certain blue fiend than I wouldn't have to deal with all this evening rush hour! " I groaned as I swerved around a man in a gray suit talking on his cell phone not paying any attention to where he was going. "Selfish ingrate," I cursed as he almost caused me to collide with a lady pushing a stroller.

My mind jumped back to the events of a few minutes ago while I was still getting prepared to leave. I was setting everything next to my door so when I left it would be quick, easy, and painless. Everything was going fine until i had a feeling that something didn't feel right. It wasn't a bad feeling, just a small nagging disturbance you feel when you know you're forgetting something.

I leaned against the wall feeling quite agitated that i couldn't think of what it is until i looked down at my feet. I then noticed that I had forgotten one minor detail. I face palmed at my ignorance and sighed," shoes... of course! How could i forget shoes?! I swear this whole Sonic thing is making me loose my mind," I mumbled as I trudged back upstairs to my room.

Surprisingly I managed to open the door, walk across the floor next to my bed, and pick up my shoes without evening making the sleeping Sonic in my bed flinch even once. I was feeling quite impressed with myself, that is until the jinxed my good fortune and squeaked as I tried to exit.

I froze in place for a minute listening and expecting to hear his confused voice any minute. I waited...and waited but became suspicious when I heard nothing. I slowly turned around to look at the bed but instead of seeing the form of a sleeping blue hedgie my eyes  instead met with pair of curious emeralds right in front of mine not two inches away from where I stood." HOLLY SWEET MOTHER OF CHOAS!" I yelled as my skates dropped down next to me and a very frightened blue  hedgehog bolted behind my dresser.

I cursed at myself mentally for frightening him like  that, instead of controlling myself like I normally manage to do pretty well, but holly chaos can you really blame me? I mean the kid is like a ninja, its nerve wrecking and creepy if you ask me!

I took in a deep breath and calmed my frazzled nerves. I stepped over my skates that still remained  exactly where they fell and slowly walked over to Sonic.

There he was curled up in a shaking blue ball in the corner formed between where  my wall and dresser meet. I guess he felt my presence or something, because once I got there he  immediately began begging for my forgiveness, and apologizing saying that he should have made himself known and stuff like that.

It took a while but I finally managed to calm him down and get him back into bed. That was around the time that Rouge showed up and knocked on the door. Sonic hid under the blankets and once again I had to coax him out saying it was just Rouge. " W-what is sh-she doing here Shadow?" Sonic questioned as he peaked his head out from under the covers. " She's just here to watch over you while I go out and run a real quick errand," i tried to reasured him but this just seemed to make him more nervous. "She...she's not gonna see me is she?" This confused a lot but I still answered," yes probably, why is there something wrong with that? "  Sonic immediately began to shake his head back and forth, " no! No Shadow its just I'm not ready for anyone to see me yet tis all!" "I understand" I said as I stood back up off the bed. " I'll tell her to stay downstairs then is that OK?" Sonic nodded his head and laid back down to sleep.

I sighed as the memory ended. I felt pity for Sonic and him not wanting to be seen by friends yet, but I'll change that just as soon as I get the answers I am looking for . just as I thought that I arrived at the entrance of G.U.N I took a deep breath and slowly exhaled," Let's do this!" I mumbled as I entered the facility.
