I Will Protect You

Chapter 19

Shadow's POV:
Have you ever had a feeling that something was wrong? That when you you show up somewhere and you just have that gut feeling that something wasn't right? Well I have just arrived at the front of G.U.N and that is how I'm feeling, I just hope I am wrong.

I slowly enter the facility and it's quiet...to quiet. The hallways that are usually buzzing with scientists and soldiers are now dark and empty . The many rooms and offices silent and deserted. It's as if the entire building was evacuated for some reason.

I slowly trudge down one of the many dimly lit hallways, my ears flicking back and forth picking up any and all sounds with my precise and advanced senses. My quills stood up on my back showing that I was alert and ready for anything.

I was about half way down the hallway when i stopped in my tracks. I did a full three-sixty as I felt a cool breeze pass by my flank. While examining the poorly lit area though I saw nothing and raised an eyebrow in suspension at this as I turned back around and continued walking.

I felt it again. This time it felt closer, like it was almost on top of me. I felt on edge as I quickly scanned the area again, " Who's there show yourself?!" I yelled into the emptiness as my only response was my own voice echoing off the walls.

I was getting frustrated with whatever this mysterious wind was. It was trying my patience with the stupid games it was playing and I did not want to nor did I have the time to play its pity games.

I felt the wind again, which made me turn quickly facing in the direction that I was previously walking in. I growled as my fists clenched," I'm done playing these stupid games! Either you show me who are or I will be forced to use more brutal ways of making you talk!" The palms of my hands then started to glow as I charged my chaos energy and waited for any chance to strike.

I closed my eyes and peaked my senses as I listened for anything. The smallest sound, or the faintest sigh of movement is all I needed in order to find the perfect place to release my first spear. My ear flicked when I heard something that sounded like a quick paced tapping noise, so I quickly rose my hand and threw and spear.

I raised an eyebrow as I saw the approaching target dodge my attack and jump onto a shelf leaning on the wall. I stared in the direction of the figure trying to make out its appearance but the shadows it was submerged in made it difficult to see anything besides its silhouette.

I was getting ready to throw another spear when the figure jumped off the shelf and bolted down the hallway. I growled as I took of gliding across the floor following the figure at top speed. I tried to examine the create further as I ran but all I saw was a dark blur.

I followed the figure into a dark room and was suddenly stopped when the figured disappeared. I growled when my only exit out of the room shut behind me locking me inside.

I charged up my chaos spear and threw it at the door expecting it to disintegrate at contact. I smirked as I watched the room fill with dust but my smirk faded just as fast as it appeared and my eyes widened in disbelief when the dust cleared. Right there before me was the door still standing and in one piece.

I frowned distastefully at this as I turned and yelled into the emptyness, " What is the meaning of this! " and as if to answer my question the room lit up with bright lights blinding me and forcing me to squint when they turned on so abruptly.

My ear flicked and I turned towards another part of the room when I heard footsteps. " I'm so very glad you ask Agent Shadow you see for a while now we have been looking for a, shall we say 'test monkey' to test out our latest experiment but no one fit the bill...that is until we found you..." I snarled at this as my pearly white fangs made their way through my parted lips.

"Who are you?! Show yourself!" I yelled in the direction of the voice. " All in due time Agent but first I would like you to meet someone very special. " at that very moment another door opened and the figure that I had previously been chasing not ten minutes ago stepped out.

My jaw dropped as I struggled to hold in my worry and small amount of fear as I swallowed hard. This was no figure or enemy, instead this thing was... Sonic but in a way it also wasn't.

Instead of Sonic's royal blue fur it was darkened and six head quills were turned upward towards the sky. His Jade eyes were now completely white not a single hint of those green irises in sight. The warm caring smile that was always adorn his muzzle was replaced with an evil smirk and the peach fuzzy muzzle and arms of his seemed more pale.

I slowly took a step forward toward him but stopped when he snarled at me...wait he snarled at me? This definitely wasn't the Sonic I knew. " Sonic what have they done to you?" I asked as I tried to approach him again.

His only response was when he tilted his head in confusion towards at me, but then quickly regained his composure and snarled at me once again when I tried to approach him.

The voice that I had heard previously when I first arrived spoke again, but this time sounding closer as he finally emerged from the blinding light and showed himself.

"Dr. Valentine!" growled and mentally slapped myself for not recognizing the voice sooner. I tried to lung myself at him to attack him when I gasped and suddenly forced myself to stop when Sonic bolted in front of him and stopped me from advancing.

"Sonic what on mobius are you doing?! Why are protecting him?!" I asked as he just continued to snarl and growl at me. Dr. Valentine chuckled as he patted Sonic's head making my blood boil, " Oh Agent Shadow you still don't get it do you? Poor lad. You see this isn't Sonic you know and rescued those many days ago. No no no this here is a new project we have been working on called Project Dark, and unlike you he will actually do and succeed in fulfilling his mission. He will accomplish where you failed. In short he will replace you." He chuckled again as i froze hearing all this and looked down at the floor still trying to understand on why they wanted me here though.

But in an ironic sort of way he answered that too," And if your still trying to comprehend on why you're here then I think I'll let Project Dark here do the explaining. Get him boy! " I flinched and tensed when i saw Sonic nod to scientist and get into a fighting stance.

My blood ran cold when I heard him yell the first words I've heard him say since I got here... kill Shadow the Hedgehog.
