The Dragon – Setting Out
"Your Majesty. Your humble subject deserves to die." The General bowed deeply and didn't dare to face the raging young Emperor.
The young Emperor wordlessly stared at the kneeling General. His wrath was of the highest point of unspeakable. He clenched his fists until his white and the green veins were clearly seen on his white as snow skin. His temple twitched and he could no longer restrain himself from shivering out of unvented fury.
He sent this General to pursue a traitor, yet he returned empty handed.
"What happened?" With much difficulty, he squeezed out the words between his teeth and diligently held down the fire that threatened to combust and burn him alive.
"He was aided by several Generals and Captains who are still loyal to him. Numerous soldiers are with them too. We didn't expect him to get such high numbers of supporters... We were outnumbered, therefore, to avoid more casualties, we could only choose to retreat and let them escape..."
The kneeling General could hear the sound of cracking knuckles from being clenched too tight. The new Emperor might be young, but his Majestic aura was second to none. Even the former Emperor was not half as frightening as this new Emperor. The General truly delighted that he chose to vow his loyalty to such a promising youth. His intuition told him that His Majesty would be the greatest Emperor in Datong's history. His Majesty, despite his youth and temper, would not be blinded by unreasonable qualms instead possessed a very clear mind to analyze all situations. He firmly believed it. His intuition had never failed him before.
"Humble subject deserves to die...Your Majesty, please punish me..."
The Emperor waved his sleeve then elegantly sat on his Dragon throne.
Analyzing the whole situation for a while, the young Emperor obviously still filled with rage, yet, prudently he suppressed it and in a surprisingly calm voice praised the General's precise decision.
"No. You have made the correct decision."
"Your Majesty is merciful, humble subject is ashamed for his fail..."
The Emperor ordered the kneeling General to standup and then listened to the full report regarding the case.
"Your Majesty, should we lead a larger troop to pursue them?"
"No need."
The young Emperor was in his early year of reigning. He ascended the throne barely half a year ago and began his reign as Emperor Jing Zong. To lead an expedition of a large number of troops only to seize a traitor would cause an enormous disadvantage for his position. Even if the traitor was none other than his own Imperial Uncle, Prince Xuan Yuan Yong Yi, the younger brother of the former Emperor.
No oneknew why the Prince chose to revolt against the new Emperor. Nobody could comprehend why the Prince would chose to betray his own country and fleefrom the Palace, leaving behind his comfortable life as a Prince to be branded a traitor, especially after his whole life's effortsof raising the new Emperor. Nobody knew the reasonsexcept Prince Yong Yi and the new Emperor himself.
Even if the General happened to lift his head and had glimpsed the young Emperor, he wouldn't have been able to see the complicated expression on that Emperor's face since a thick veil of beads obstructed him. All he could feel was the overwhelming cold and heavy aura emitted by the Emperor.
