Chapter 2: Visiting The Old Friend Of Mine
The next day soon passed quickly and night was soon rising. I was hanging out in Zuko's room on his bed. I watched as he pulled on a cloak. I tilted my head confused.
"Zuko, where are you going?" I asked curious.
"Nowhere," he muttered. I jumped off the bed and ran towards his side, stopping him by the wrist. He gave me a strange look while I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Zuko, stop keeping secrets from me. Where are you going?" I asked. He sighed hesitantly.
"I'm going to visit Uncle, you can't come-"
"I'm coming with you!" I interrupted.
"No, you're not." he stated.
"Yes, I am, Zuko. I miss him dearly, and. . . I have to see him! Let me see him!" I demanded. If he's going to see him so am I!
"Fine," he mumbled. I beamed into happiness as I grabbed a cloak and put it on as well as hidden just as much as he is. (I don't know why I put a cloak on the side, I was just bored!)
We walked out of the palace and above the cliff side, and I saw a large building place probably where they kept criminals. I hated this feeling inside my gut. Zuko and I haven't said a word to each other as we walked inside. We walked down many hallways til we reached the one Uncle was inside. I then saw a guard.
"You again?!" Zuko's been here before? "Stop where you are!" we only continued walking and Zuko's and my head snapped up to be perfectly seen. "Prince Zuko? Princess Akari?" Zuko suddenly attacked him and the guard dropped his weapon as he was being pushed against the wall.
We're going in for a visit! Your going to stay and guard here, and no one is going to know about this." Zuko said calmly.
"Don't be too harsh," I muttered. Zuko then dropped the guard and we both walked towards the cell Uncle was inside. Zuko slowly opened the door and I saw him; torn, broken, and in pain. He probably misses Pai Sho and his tea a lot. . .
He was just sitting there not facing us; not knowing it was us that came in. I wonder if he'll recognize me?
"Uncle, it's me." Zuko stated, removing the hood of his cloak. Uncle then turned around to face the wall. Uncle. . .
"Uncle, and me too, River. . ." I informed, removing my cloak. Uncle slightly turned his head to see me and sighed in relief.
"I missed you River, you're the only one that doesn't give up hope." he smiled, but it looked faltered and cracked. I frowned at this.
"I'm sorry this happened to you," I muttered.
"It's not your fault." he stated. I sighed.
"I know, but I feel bad that I didn't follow your order and I knew I had to see you to apologize. Zuko wants to say something as well, so please hear him out." I stated.
"You brought this on yourself, you know." Zuko said. I gasped.
"Zuko, stop it!" I yelled. He gave me a look but shrugged it off.
"We could've returned together, you could've been a hero."
"Zuko, please stop. You don't know what this put him through." he only ignored me.
"You had no right to judge me, Uncle. I did what I had to do in Ba Sing Se." he said.
"You could've chose not to and lived without it, and turned your head the the other way, but no. I only agreed to this because I didn't want to get killed by Azula, the Dai Li, or feel the hatred of when I betrayed my friends. Well, their not my friends anymore." I stated.
