Chapter 9: Knowing
While Zuko and Aang left, I waved out to them till they were gone from my sight. I sighed in annoyance as I wanted to go with them. Maybe it was time to give space to Zuko, as I might seem too clingy to him. Wait, we're getting married so how would that work? Getting married. . . Hmm, it seems so weird to be saying that, well, in my head that is. Either way, I'm too young!
"So, what should we do while they're gone?" Sokka asked as he sat down beside me and started to poke the fire with another stick.
"Well, I think I'm going to just have a look around the place. I never got to check it out." I said. And other than that, I can get my thoughts together.
"Wanna walk together? I can give you a tour." Sokka said.
"No thanks, Sokka. I'd rather walk alone for a bit." I said as I gave him a soft smile. I stood up and brushed the dirt off of me. I walked up the stairs and looked at all the stones, stones, oh -- look! More stones.
I'd thought this would be more entertaining. This isn't even interesting in any way at all, it was all rocks and stones, and buildings. This is better off for an earth bender. Then I saw a statue of what reminded of something, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I walked closer to it as I examined the statue more closely. It looked familiar to me. Then, I recognized the ring it had on its finger. I had definitely seen it before, but where?
I touched it as I was curious, but then I felt it glue to it as I was stuck. Wasn't I in a situation like this before? It started glowing and I was glowing with it. I struggled to get myself loose, it wasn't working at all. The glowing light grew brighter and stronger on the statue, and I was turning the same. I gasped once I couldn't see anything but bright light escape through my eyes.
That's when I could feel the world spinning around me and everything get heavy. My head was pounding with pain and I knew I was getting dizzy. I still couldn't let go of the ring as my hand was still glued to it. Then, that's when I saw it right in front of me without the bright light blocking my view. I could see people in front of me, smiles on their faces as they stared at me with looks of joy as if they had seen someone finally return home after being lost for centuries.
"You have returned," a lady said which had a very soft voice as she walked up to me. She looked rather young, but her grey eyes showed how wise and kind she was. She looked pure with innocence.
I averted my eyes around the place as I was very confused. We were in a place which looked to be above the clouds in the sky. I looked like as if I was in heaven, but it was too pure to be true. Actually, heaven is nothing but pure. Hmm.
"Am I. . . dead?" I gulped in fear of knowing as I furrowed my eyebrows. How could I be dead? Am I really dead? The lady let out a melodic laugh as it sounded like bells. It was truly beautiful the way it sounded.
"No, my dear child. You are home, at the Light Palace. You have returned from long ago. Yet, we are deceased so we are only here in your mind, as this is just an illusion." The woman said. "It is a wonder of what you can do with light bending, and it is a very rare gift that the sky had given you. You are the last of us."
I stared at her confused. I had a difficult time believing that. "Then, why me? How am I the last? The last of what?" I asked. She gave me a soft smile, and I could see the wrinkles form on her face like a crease.
"Dear child, you are the last light bender. You have returned to us. We are very pleased to see you, as we have something very important that we must inform you." The lady said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"You need to be aware of what is soon to come. Danger is ahead of your future and it will soon darken with troublesomeness. You must protect yourself from all harms way, and produce as many children with light bending. We must bring back our kind into this world of yours.
