Chapter 4: My Own Little Mission

We crashed the party after we left to have a little fun screwing up Chan's house, and we soon left Ember Island the next day. The boat ride wasn't exactly fun on the way back, but I made myself used to it when I was sitting beside Zuko.

Later that night~

I awoke to my throat feeling dry and scratchy, meaning that I needed to get something to drink. I pushed the covers off of me and got out of bed, slowly sliding my bare feet to the door. I open the door slowly, trying not to make a sound. Once out, I shut the door behind me carefully and began to sneakily tiptoe down the halls. All the windows were open as the curtains danced with the wind, giving off an eerie look.

The soft breeze felt cold as I shivered and rubbed my arms up and down my arms repeatedly for warmth. Sadly, it wasn't working. I couldn't find the kitchen or anything for that matter so I just went to my bedroom. And when I mean my bedroom, I actually meant Zuko's.

I walked to his bedroom door and knocked on the door. No answer. Maybe he was already asleep? I shrugged, and slowly opened the door. I slipped inside and closed it behind me. I tiptoed over to Zuko's bedside. I lifted the blankets and got inside. I snuggled in deeper to find his warmth and I smiled to myself. I heard him mumble a few things before turning over to face me. Well, he couldn't really face me since it was dark, but you get the point.

"River, what are you doing in here?" Zuko mumbled sleepily.

"I wanted to lay with you," I answer as I snuggled into his chest. I could just tell that he was blushing as I intertwine my hand into his.

"Is there something wrong?" he asked.

"Nothing is wrong, Zuko. I just couldn't sleep, that's all." I stated.

"Here," I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion till I felt him let go of my hand and wrapped it around me instead in a spooning sort of way. He laid my head on his warm chest and began playing with my hair. I could hear his steady heart beat in my ears, which sounded soothing and peaceful. "Feel better?" he asked me and I blushed. I could feel the vibrations off of his chest as he spoke.

"Yes. . . Thank you, Zuko." I smiled and pushed myself up to kiss his cheek then lied back down on his chest. I took a deep breath and let it out.

"You're welcome, River. Now sleep." he said while continuing to play with my hair and I did so. I fell asleep just like that in Zuko's strong, warm arms. His steady heart beat relaxed me until I felt the world become a blur till I fell asleep.

The Next Day~

I woke up to see Zuko out of his room. I guess he wanted me to sleep. I smiled to myself and sat up to stretch. I pulled the blanket off of me and stood up. I walked out of his room and into mine to get dressed for the day. I took a warm bath and then went to my wardrobe to find something nice to wear. I picked out a deep blood red yukata and slipped it on quickly. I brushed a comb through my dark hair and I was then finished.

I walked out of my room and down the hallway. I walked through many endless hallways and stairs till I found Zuko and Azula in front of a portrait of what seemed to be the past Fire lords. I grin and walked up to them, which both of them seemed to be deep in conversation.

"Its never too early with a court painting, Zuko." Azula smirked, "make sure he gets your good side." what ever she was talking about, I didn't like it. She then began to walk off. Good.

"Wait," blurted Zuko. Zuko, what are you doing?! "I need to ask you something." I quickly hid behind the pole that happened to be near me before I was seen. I didn't know why I did so, I guess it was just instinct or something like that.
