Chapter 12: The Mission Part 2

Apparently, the warden has called for me and this other guard to round up prince Zuko for him. Sokka was already there.

"Hey, you!" I said to Sokka as I tried to make myself sound convincing. "What are you doing down here?" I asked.

"I was just telling this dirty low life of what I think of him!" Sokka said.

"Well, you'll have to do that later. He's coming with us." The other guard said.

"Why?" Sokka asked.

"We have orders straight from the warden," I said strictly.

"Could I just get ten more seconds to rough him up a bit?" Sokka asked with a grin.

"Whatever," I said as I crossed my arms. Sokka went in and was doing whatever.

"Newbie," the other guard said.

"Just trying to seem tough to the others," I said. We both chuckled at the thought. After the ten seconds were up, we opened the door and had to pull Sokka off of Zuko.

"Alright that's enough," the guard said. We grabbed hold of Zuko and walked him down the corridor.

"What're you doing? Where are you taking me?" Zuko asked. We ignored him though which I hated doing. The guard opened the door and threw him in there. I stood guard from the door in case something was bound to happen.

"I didn't do anything wrong!" Zuko shouted. I gasped quietly as I saw Mai enter the room.

"Come on, Zuko. We all know that's a lie." Mai said.

"Mai!" Zuko said. "How did you know I was here?"

"Because I know you so well," Mai answered.

"But, how-?"

"The warden is my uncle, you idiot." Mai said. I clench my fists in anger. No one is allowed to call him that! Except me! "The truth is, I guess I don't know you. All I get is s letter? You could've at least looked me in the eye when you ripped out my heart."

"I didn't mean to-"

"You didn't mean to? Dear Mai, I'm sorry you have to find out this way, but I'm leaving." Mai said as if she was reading a letter.

"Stop! This isn't about you!" Zuko yelled. "This is about the Fire Nation!"

"Thanks, Zuko, that makes me feel all better." Mai said.

"Mai, I never wanted to hurt you." Zuko said. "But I have to do this to save my country."

"Save it? You're betraying your country." Mai said.

"That's not how I see it," Zuko said. There was silence for a few seconds.

"Ma'am, there's a riot going on! I need to protect you!" A guard said.

"I don't need protection," Mai said.

"Believe me, she doesn't." Zuko agreed.

"I'm sorry, but I'm under your uncle's direct orders to make it happen!" The guard said. I turned to see Zuko casting a fire and making a run for it. He closed the door and was staring at Mai for a second before we ran off. Zuko and I ran off to find the others.

We found them and all together. "Zuko, River, we're all here. Now all we need to do is grab the warden and get to the gondolas." Sokka said.

"And how do we do that?" Zuko asked.

"I'm not sure," Sokka said.

"Ugh, I thought you thought this through!" Zuko said.

"I thought you told me it's okay not to think things through!" Sokka said. I groaned.
