Chapter 8: Nightmares
It wasn't until later that I got to meet everyone like Haru and The Duke, and I wasn't so pleased to see Teo once again. He wasn't so pleased either. I didn't mind the others, though, as they were quite alright. Haru was a bit of a softie and The Duke told me he was with Jet. Hmm, Jet.... I haven't seen him in quite a while, I hope he was alright in the head this time. Maybe he got himself fixed? Yeah, and Long Shot and Smellerbee are alright together as well!
"So, how is Jet? Last time I saw him he went berserk over Zuko. He finally alright in the head? I'd like to get a little payback for cutting me. And then we could be friends again and play Monopoly." I let out a hearty laugh. It suddenly went quiet and no one spoke. Uh, was it something I said? "What is it? Something the matter?"
They all lowered their heads in sorrow, including Katara. Whoa, shocker. "Did something happen? You all look like someone died."
"Jet. . . He's dead." Sokka said. I furrowed my eyebrows confused. Jet was dead? No, not another Jet. Not again!
"So, he's dead? Another Jet. . . Just like my brother. For a second I thought I would've forgotten him; my brother. Ugh, this must've been my fault. Of course it was, I got him dead. Those soldiers -- I let them take him, and I could've stopped it." I said as a few tears fled past my cheeks.
"Don't blame yourself, River. It wasn't your fault. He got himself killed by a giant rock." Aang said as he put an arm around my shoulders. I shrugged him off and shook my head, knowing it wasn't true. Of course it was my fault. I got him arrested and that's when it all started.
"Nah, just let her blame herself. She's right, she got Jet arrested then he got hypnotized and then he went splat. It's her fault for what happened to Jet. Just the person that would do it for the perfect victim. Of course, we should've known." Katara snickered. I flared up with range and my eyes flickered to a glowing white.
"Katara, just cut it out! Why can't you ever just give her a break?!" Sokka yelled at her.
"Maybe it was because she betrayed us all! Don't any of you feel the same?!" Katara shouted.
"That was in the past, Katara. You have to learn to get over what happened in the past. You should just give her a chance." Aang said.
"And do you know how many chances I've given her?! More than any of you can count!" Katara exclaimed. I rolled my eyes at her.
"That was only two," I said with a glare. "It's time for you to go to sleep," and with a flick of my wrist, she had passed out.
"What did you do?" Aang asked with worry and concern.
"Relax, I just sent her to sleep. The light capacity around her head tightens and causes her head to just pass out from it. She'll be fine in the morning." I said. Yeah, I can make people pass out now. They are still in good shape as it doesn't harm them at all, it just helps me not have to deal with her annoyance of me.
Zuko then walked over to us as he was in a corner earlier by himself. I walked over there earlier to see if he needed company, but he wanted to be alone. He said he had to "sort out his thoughts".
"Bad news. I lost my stuff," Zuko says.
"Don't look at me, I didn't touch your stuff!" Toph said as she raised her arms up in defense. I giggled as she didn't know what kind of 'stuff' he was talking about. Well, I didn't know what it was either. So what am I supposed to say? That I love pandas? Well, I do love pandas. I love them very much. They're so awesome and cuddly.
"I'm talking about my fire bending. It's gone." Zuko said as he lowered his head in shame. I feel really bad for him. It's like losing something apart of you that's so close. I know how that feels.
