It's June 1 now; only a few more days until summer begins. Everyone will be going on summer breaks or just having some time to themselves, but I'll stuck in this place until I give them what they want. All I want to be able to do is go outside and smell the blossoming of the flowers, however, they're forcing me to be cooped up in this sanatorium for no reason, honestly.
I trot down the hall in just a bare gown and slippers, dragging behind me my IV and a bunch of respiratory machines. I even have those short nostril oxygen tubes stuck into my nose, which makes no sense because I can breathe perfectly fine.
"Soojung-ah, where are you going?" a nurse who's strolling by asks me. I immediately recognize her as my current favorite nurse. Nurse Goo is the chief nurse on this level; she has so much patience with everyone that people complain that she is way too patient. She also understands what I'm going through, even though she doesn't at the same time.
"I'm going to go meet Ahyeon again," I respond while looking into her brown eyes. Everyone has been making an effort for me to make friends around here, and apparently Ahyeon is a best friend from our past. You're probably wondering why I said 'our'... she's suffering the same fate as I am, except worse.
She's still in an unconscious state with that helmet over her head; no one knows if she'll even wake up. There are days when she's as warm as a toaster and then times when she's so cold that I think she's dead. Her lips are always dry and glued together while her cheeks die with no pigment in them. Ahyeon basically looks dead.
"She's... not doing well today," Nurse Goo's expression becomes dull like the world has ended.
"What... do you mean?"
She scoots in closer to me until our ears are basically connected.
"We think she's showing signs of waking up. Waking up from whatever, like you."
