Several months has passed since the tragic event during the expedition. The feeling of guilt still lingers with Levi, but he managed to put it behind him months ago; he promised (Y/n) that he'd do so.
Every morning up until the late afternoon, (Y/n) still trains her younger brother. Isabel and Farlan's deaths only make Levi more determined to push himself to train harder. He's made it his mission to make the world a safer, titan-free place. He'll do it for them.
Today, the Lance Corporal is, once again, drowning in the paperwork that a certain blond-haired commander had decided to give her. The cadets are running laps outside with their drill instructor. The silence in her office is calming. Nothing can disturb the tranquillity.
Or so she thought.
"SHORTY!!!"
A sigh of frustration leaves (Y/n)'s lips as Hanji bursts into the office. There goes the calming silence.
"What is it, Hanji?"
"I wanna go get more titans!! Pleeeeaseeee (Y/n)!!! I need more of them to do my experiments," she exclaims.
"What about the ones you have now?" (Y/n) doesn't understand why the titan-obsessed scientist needs MORE of the large, human-devouring humanoids.
Hanji pouted and started to complain. "(Random name 1) and (Random name 2) are getting boring. They don't react to my experimentation anymore!"
The Lance Corporal pinched the bridge of her nose and exhaled loudly. Though Hanji's excuse is a valid reason for her to get new titan test subjects, the resources, time, effort, and soldiers needed to go on an expedition are running thin.
Is it worth it?
That single question echoes through (Y/n)'s ears as she weighs her options. Allow Hanji to go on an expedition for titans and risk more casualties ... or .... refuse her pleas and nobody gets hurt.
Minutes of silence goes by before Hanji starts fidgeting on the seat she had plopped herself onto. Despite her desperation for (Y/n) to agree, she stays silent. 'Please say yes! Please say yes! Please say yes!' Hanji chants the three words in her mind while waiting.
"Fine."
"Yipeeeeeee!" Hanji squeals in delight while jumping up and down. Her eyes sparkles with excitement.
Another sigh escapes (Y/n)'s lips. The only reason she agreed to the mini expedition is because the Survey Corps. needs to know more about the carnivorous creatures that are a threat to humanity's existence. Without any new information about the titans, humans will eventually cease to exist.
"Tch. Calm down already. If you're done bouncing around in MY office, then get out."
All the excitement about the expedition disappears from Hanji for a quick second. "Awww, come on. Let me have my fun, Shorty! You're always so grumpy," she whines.
"Just get out already."
"Shorty yo-"
"Get out!"
"But Shor-"
"OUT!"
Hanji giggles and immediately darts out of the angry woman's office before she can be killed. Taking the risk of being killed in the future, the young, brown-haired woman screeches while running down the halls to irritate her friend even more.
If emotions could be expressed with physical occurrence, the office would have combusted before Hanji left. (Y/n) is fuming. No matter how close of a friend Hanji is with the Lance Corporal, her antics always gets on (Y/n)'s nerves.
~Time Skip~
"Tch. Why do we have to go on an expedition," Levi complains while prepping his horse. (Y/n), who's besides him doing the exact same thing, lets out a huff of air to convey her annoyance.
"We need to get more titan test subjects for Hanji. The information she can gather from them is vital. Besides, she will bothered me for as long as I live if I had said no."
With the help of the side of the horse's stall, (Y/n) manages to mount her horse. Levi follows suit and copies her actions. Their horses walk out of the stable and join the rest of the soldiers selected for the small trip.
Hanji is practically bouncing on the saddle of her horse. She's ecstatic. It's almost like watching a hyper child trying to stand still, except she's ten times more hyper.
Upon seeing Hanji's display of excitement, the Ackerman siblings both scoff and let out a 'Tch' before urging their horses to continue forward.
~Time Skip~ (I'm sorry. I just don't know what to put for the capturing of titans.)
After many hours of chasing, slicing, and tying, the soldiers managed to nab two titans. Fortunately, none of the soldiers died. A few received minor injuries such as scraps and bruises, but nothing life threatening.
As soon as they get back to HQ, Hanji launches herself off her horse and bolts towards her new "babies."
"HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL BABIES!! LOOK AT YOU! WE'RE GONNA HAVE SO MUCH FUN WITH MY EXPERIMENTS," she shrieks.
"..."
Levi stares with disbelief. His left eye twitches. (Y/n) and her horse come up beside him and she lets out a quiet chuckle.
"Now you know what I have to deal with."
They silently watch Hanji experiments on the new titans. A boy with smooth brown hair, Molbit Berner, runs around alongside the scientist. Besides being her assistant, Molbit also serves as Hanji's "babysitter" (according to everyone except Hanji, who refuses to see him as a babysitter).
The poor boy is left in a state of panic most of the time. Even though Hanji was the one who hired Molbit to be an assistant, (Y/n) had pulled him aside one day and tasked him with keeping his overzealous and eccentric superior out of trouble. Everyday during experiments, Molbit has to constantly remind Hanji to be careful or yank her to safety when she gets too close.
Many of their fellow soldiers find it surprising that he is still alive and by her side. After watching Molbit yank Hanji, once again, away from one of the titan's open jaws, Levi is now one of the many people who are surprised.
