“Eye spy with my little eye, something beginning with H,” Jeremy hesitated as he looked outside the window. Lindsay’s boyfriend Leo was driving us down to a hidden part of the beach that he had found a few months ago and thought it would be perfect for us to go camping there.

Lindsay and I sat at the very back of the van, talking in hushed voices as the boys played eye spy to kill some time. I had been around to Danny’s house every day since Christmas and began to really get along well with Lindsay. She was only three years older than me but we got along like best friends.  That was until she mentioned anything to do with me and Danny.

“So when are you two going to start dating?” I shrugged and looked out the window, playing with the necklace that hung around my neck.

“I don’t think that is really going to happen,” I stated, my voice wavering slightly. Danny hadn’t mentioned anything about the kiss nearly a month ago and his confession just after that. I gathered he was regretting what had happened and only valued me as a friend. Why else would he not mention anything?

“Bullshit, he really likes you,” I laughed at how loudly she swore before bringing her voice back down to a whisper. After convincing the boys we were okay after Lindsay’s sudden outburst we went back to whispering.

“I don’t think he does. After the kiss a month ago he hasn’t said anything,” I quickly covered my mouth after letting information about the kiss slip out.

“You guys kissed!?” I quickly moved my hand from my mouth over to hers in an attempt to quieten her down.

“He will hear you, shut up,” I spoke quietly but harshly. Lindsay whispered a sorry before I took a deep breath and explained what had happened the night of the comedy show, then his confession and finally, his lack of mentioning either.

“You know what your problem is Katie?” without waiting for me to respond she continued, “You leave it all to him. Grow some balls and tell him how you feel, and what you want. Trust me when I say he won’t hang around forever,” her eyes darkened for a few seconds before continuing.

“Besides, he is as shy as a child at his grandmothers 70th.” I laughed at her way of explaining and agreed that I would tell him how I feel. Eventually.

“No, I’m not taking eventually for an answer,” before I could respond Jeremy’s voice echoed throughout the van.

“We’re here, girls come help us grab some of the tents and stuff,”

Jumping out of the van Lindsay and I grabbed the eskie that held all the alcohol that the boys had packed for the few nights we were staying there.

The beach was spellbinding. The sun hit the ocean in such a way that the ocean glittered, as if it was winking at us. The sand was pure white, something that was difficult to find on the very well-used beaches of Melbourne.

The boys set up the tents on the back of the beach, leaving enough room just in case a huge wave would swallow up our tents in the middle of the night.

There were three tents in total, and as I looked at them I realised something.

“Hey guys, where am I sleeping tonight?” Jeremy looked over his shoulder briefly and smiled.

“With me, obviously,” shooting a wink in my direction he began to laugh. I on the other hand was standing on the sand with my arms crossed, my face growing serious.

“Jeremy, I’m not kidding, where am I sleeping?” Danny came up to me and wrapped his arms around my waist. I looked over at Lindsay who winked back at me. Scowling I looked away, hoping that someone would answer me.
