A knock on the door brought my eyes off the book I was currently reading on my bed. Looking up I saw my Dad standing at the door, his fingers curled around something.
"Hi sweetheart," Dad spoke softly as he walked into the room. I replied with a gentle "Hi" in return as Dad sat on the bed, the mattress dipping slightly under his weight.
"How are you feeling tonight? You didn't talk much over dinner," his eyes looked down at the head of the bed where I sat, the slightest tint of worry hidden in the depths of his big brown eyes.
He was correct however, I hadn't spoken much since the incident in the chinese shop. I couldn't get over the fact that someone as charming and simply beautiful as Danny had wanted to give me his number.
"Yeah, good Dad, just tired, this week was hectic," I smiled tenderly at my father and he smiled back, but not just any smile, it was his knowing smile, something he usually wore plastered to his face when he knew something and had what he would call a fantastic idea.
"Oh, okay then," Dad paused, his hand twiched slightly around what he was holding before he continued. "So, who's Danny?"
My mouth fell open slightly as I realised what was in his hand, I patted my pockets quickly only to find out that the thing in Dad's hand was the piece of paper with a mobile number on it,Danny's number.
"Oh, he was a guy who ran into me at the chinese shop," I mumbled, not feeling comfortable with this situation. I wasn't even planning on calling him, with University coming to an end for the year and work I was too busy to do anything. Besides, I had read alot of teenage novels and so forth, I knew that most guys just wanted to have their way with you before leaving you with a broken heart.
"So how did you end up with his number?" Dad enquired, holding the piece of now crumpled paper and studying it playfully, his eyes slowly moving to lock gazes for a second or two.
"He ran into me, spilt our chinese food on the floor, he gave me his number so he could buy me dinner another time, to make up for tonight," Once again mumbling, I turned my gaze onto the bed sheets in front of me.
"So, you are telling me he asked you on a date?" Dad guessed, I looked back up at my father to see one of his eyebrows raised in question. he was right, Danny had asked me indirectly on a date, which ment he must be a little bit interested, right?
nodding my head I watched as my father nodded his head in return, understanding the situation.
"Did you call him?" Dad finally asked, after a minute of silence, I shook my head indercating I hadn't. Dad ran a hand through his hair and frowned at me.
"Why not? you need to get out of this house Katie, You need to make some friends, doo things, see things. If this boy, who wants to go on a date with you can help you find a way, then I say you should call him. Now I'm not saying to go and have sex with him or anything, but just call him, go on this date and for god's sake have some fun,"
With that being said Dad placed the piece of paper in my hand, curling my fingers around it, patting my fingers a few times he left my room, closing the door behind him.
I sat there for a few moments, trying to let the shock of Dad's words die down. He was right, once again, I needed to do something other than read, study and work, and maybe this Danny could help me do it.
Leaning over to the bed side table I reached out for my phone, unlocking it and dialing the numbers that were written in Danny's hand writing on the piece of paper.
my finger shook as I pressed the dial button, I could feel my heart drumming against my rib cage, my blood pumping inside my ears in the rythem of my clock ticking as the phone began to ring.
One, Two, Three, Four. I counted the times the phone rang until I counted to six, I was about to hang up when I heard heavy breathing coming from the other end of the call, as if the owner of the breathing ran to answer the phone.
"Hey, sorry I was in the shower, who is this?" my voice caught in my throat as I heard his voice. Damn it, why did he have to say he just got out of the shower? quickly scowleding myself for having these mental images about Danny I forced my voice to work.
"Hi, this is uh, Katie, from the Chinese Shop?" I mentally slapped myself for speaking as if I was asking a question. I heard a gasp of reconisation before Danny's husky voice filled the speaker of my phone.
"Oh hey, I remember you! I thought that you werent going to call," I sighed in relief that he remembered me, before I realised that I should probably speak once again.
"Yeah, I was just calling to say that I would love to take you up on your offer," My confidence slowly came around as I spoke to him, the slight quiver in my voice could no longer be heard.
"Really? Sick, you busy tomorrow night?" I laughed softly at his word choice before answering with a nod, slapping myself in the forehead for being so stupid I replied with a "No, I'm free," before Danny spoke again.
"Awesool, I'll pick you up at your place at 6.30?" noticing the fact that he said Awesool I had to ask.
"Awesool?" I could hear fumbling on the other side of the call before I could hear his voice once again.
"I was going to say awesome, but i turned it into cool, so yeah, awesool," I laughed before telling him my address and both of us saying our goodbyes and ending the call.
shaking my head I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I had a date tomorrow night, an actual date. I had never been on one, and by the sounds of the thumping of footsteps in the hall I could tell Dad had listened to my phone call and was happy I was going out.
Slipping on some pj's I pulled the covers over my body, thoughts about the date running through my head.
As I drifted of into my slumber I realised I had forgotten one thing. What was I going to wear tomorrow night?
