Maddie being sold? It was hard enough for me to sell her, but now there expecting that they can just do that? Oh, I'm so angry!
I promised myself that she wouldn't go to a home like that. My thoughts are disrupted by a knock on my door.
"Come in." I mumble. My mom enters.
"Dinner will be ready soon."
"Okay. Thanks." I briefly say. She sighs and comes over to my bed. As she sits down next to my I scoot away a bit.
"I know that something is bothering you. What is it?" she asks me. I sigh.
"Maddie. Julie is selling her." I say, trying very hard to not let a sob escape my throat. Mom looks at me in disbelief. I start to cry.
I know, it's stupid. I just never thought that this would happen. Maddie is such a good mare who has had a hard life. She shouldn't be treated this way.
"I mean, I wish I could do something, but we can't buy her back." I say. Mom brings me into a hug.
"I'm so sorry." She says t me. There's nothing I can do. I won't be able to even see her again. This is awful.
--------------------the next day-------------------
I get up and go out to the barn. I give April, Chex and Smoke their ha, the go back into the house. I take a shower then put on a white T-shirt that says "About Me: 100% Flawless." and my maroon jodhpurs.
It's about 7:00 and my mom and dad are already up. I grab three apples and go back out to the barn. I give one apple to each horse.
Smokes birthday is in two weeks. He's be two and I can start to do more training with him. April sticks her head out of her stall and looks at me. I laugh and get her out on the crossties.
I brush dust and small pieces of mud off of her coat. I clean her hooves and put my saddle on her. After putting the bridle on, I walk her out to the arena.
I warm her up, then push her into a canter. I turn her and head toward a small cross rail. She pops over it perfectly.
There is a local show next week. I might enter April and Chex into it. There is another jump set up to about 2'5", so I turn April towards it and she ping over it like the pocket rocket she is.
I laugh and pat her on the shoulder. I dismount and set up a course of '18" cross rails. I push her into a trot and take her over the first jump. The rest of the coarse comes easily to her and me.
I pat her on her neck and cool her off. I untack her and put her in the pasture. I get out Chex and set up a 2'9" - 3' course.
I warm him up then take him over the first 2'9" jump. He hits the pole, but it doesn't fall. I take him over it again. Soon I'm doing the entire course. When we finish, I get off and raise the jumps to 3'- 3'3".
I've never jumped this high, so I take it slow. I push him into canter again and take him over the first jump. The next one he knocks over, but the rest of the course goes great. I cool him off before untacking him and putting him back in his stall.
"Haley!" my Mom calls excitedly. I run over to the house to see what she's so happy about. She hands me a piece of paper.
"It's an ad for a horse auction tomorrow." she explains to me. I look up at her in shock.
"Are you implying that we could go?" I ask her. She nods. Of course we won't be able to but more than two, because we only have a two horse trailer, but it's better than none.
I'm so excited for tomorrow.
