I wake up and put on jeans and a blue tank top, I go out to feed the horses and clean their stalls. The horse auction is today. I finish everything in about an hour.
My mom brings out some toast for me, then she goes to hook up the trailer to the car. Mt dad can't go because he has work.
I hop in the car with my wallet and we drive off to the auction. I see multiple horse rescue organization groups. We go to take a seat. The first horse in the arena is a blue roan yearling, who just got bought by a young woman.
The next horse is a chestnut pony who comes in galloping, letting out a few bucks as she goes around.
"This is 'U Can't Catch Me'" say the announcer, "Can we get a bidder?" I bid for $100. A man from the slaughter house muds $150. I don't give up. I bid $200.
He stops bidding and I get the pony. I'm going to call her Cassy. Mom goes over to pay and I stay to watch. A well-built quarter horse gelding just got sold to another organization. Next horse is... Maddie.
I don't even wait for the announcer to say anything, "$300!" I shout. Nobody else bids and I get her. I finally have her back I run up to mom and explain everything. She is shocked, but happy that I got Maddie back.
I load up Cassy and Maddie into the trailer. We drive home and I prepare two new stalls for them. April and Chex are very excited to see Maddie, and a new horse. I can tell that Maddie missed this place.
Best day of my life.
