Serena is laying on the ground, her eyes are barely open and she seems to be very dazed. Joker is gone. Could he have spooked, hurt Serena and gotten loose? No, the crossties are not broken. I run over to Serena and try to wake her.
She opens her eyes and groans in pain, rubbing the back of her head. She sits up and stays there for a while.
"Are you ok?" I ask. She nods. This is a disaster. Where could Joker have gone? Serena is wondering the same thing.
"Where did Joker go?" she asks with a worried expression.
"I don't know." I reply, "Can you stand? We have to find him. If you want to get on April with me, that's fine."
She nods and stands up. I put April's halter on her and hop on bareback. Serena goes right behind me. The ground is a little wet, so we can see his hoof prints. I push April into a trot and continue to follow them. When we get to a stream in the middle of the woods, the hoof prints disappear on the other side.
This is not good. Serena starts to cry. I canter back home and put April away. Serena and I go inside and explain everything that happened to my mom. She gets Serena some ice for her head and calls Serena's dad.
I don't think that Joker escaped. It doesn't add up. Serena was fairly far away from the crossties, so he couldn't have hurt her, and there's no way that he could have escaped without breaking the crossties.
I think that someone took him, but who? Who has a grudge against Serena? I turn to her begin to question her.
"Was there anyone at your old barn who had it out for you?" I asks. Serena slowly nods her head. She looks almost scared to say who.
"Her name in Chantal." she replies, "She the most spoilt rider at that barn and she always hated me for some reason."
Could that have been the person who took Joker? Where could she have taken him? This is not good.
