Diana had told them that she would call when she had something, but it had been over two weeks since then and there was still nothing. What was that girl even doing?

"Mei," her boss knocked on the open door of her office. "I need to speak with you, do you have a moment?"

"Sure," she motioned for him to enter. "What do you need?"

He let out a dejected breath as he entered her office, she knew right then and there, the way he carried himself, how his gaze averted from her's slightly, that the news he had wasn't anything good. "I'm removing you from the Yan Su case."

Mei stilled, she knew it was going to be something bad but this, this was just worse than bad, and for s split moment she thought that she might still be asleep, that this was nothing more than a bad dream but she knew her boss better than that. But even still she couldn't help but ask. "I'm sorry, I'm not sure if I heard that right, did... did you say you intend to take me off this?"

He nodded grimly. "You're hearing isn't deceiving you. It's as I said, the higher ups want to take you off this case."

Confusion and shock filled her, what brought this on? "But why I always thought I did a good job. Though I know the few cases I've tried on Yan didn't go well I've still been able to put many criminals away even with those few... incidents. What made them decide to do this?"

The man let out another breath. "You're important Mei, no doubt about it. But it's been the recent failures in particular with Yan Su that made the higher ups decide to stop perusing him all together. Our company can't keep chasing a man with so many backing him."

"But—" she began only her boss cut her off.

"I'm sorry Mei, but this is a decision is final, even though I want that man to be put in prison for the lot that he's done there are others out there who need to be dealt with. This has taken too much time and we can't keep going for breadcrumbs." He looked at her with a wary gaze. "I know you've wanted him to face justice for what he's done but now might not be the time to do it. You've worked hard since you joined, why not take a bit of a vacation, it might help to relieve some stress. You have a lot of days off that you never took; it might be time to finally use them. Don't you think so?"

Mei couldn't think straight after hearing that, and found herself sitting on a bench in a local park, it was a place she had gone to several times, a small place of solace when she needed to think but her mind felt far too clouded. With her head in her hands she sighed deeply.

Something like this shouldn't have surprised her in the least; it was bound to happen eventually with how many times she failed at getting Yan Su. But she couldn't help but feel a type of disappointment, a bitter taste that came to her mouth that angered her. That a man like Yan Su would be off scot free without so much as feeling guilty for what he did but real criminals never did, they enjoyed the trill of getting out free of seeing the look of anger in those that he did wrong. Not all were like this, some reformed, and some were forced. It was very much a grey area in the world that many didn't think of.

She knew that she should just go home but if she did that Mei knew that if she did her mind would go into places that it shouldn't, and that was the last thing she wanted to deal with right now.

"You look as if the world is ending." Mei opened her eyes to see a pair of legs in front of her, lifting her head further she stared up at Diana who looked down at her.

"What are you doing here?"

"Looking for you," Diana stated. "Some of your co-workers said that there's a park you like to go to and think when you're stressed they didn't give me any more than that. So what happened were you fired?"
